EDIT: CLICK

Today my 8800GT decided to not work well anymore, so I'm gonna have to hurry this upgrade up a bit. There are a couple of things I need this thing to do; Handle my 24" 1920x1200 screen, my secondary 17" 1280x1024 (thus making SLI hard), and fold somewhat well. Something that my current HD2400Pro with 20 SPs can't quite do. Against SLI is also the fact that there aren't really any good mobos available.

I might keep my good old E7200, as the E8x00s are ridiculously expensive.

So, coming from the last thread, there are a couple of setups I'm considering.

Option A:

Buggy 780i/750i/general SLI mobo
2x9800GT 512
E8500

~580€ (~410€ w/E7200)

Great for fah, less great for OCing and less fun to use.

Option B:

P5Q Pro
2xHD4850 512
E8500

~610€ (~440 w/ E7200)

Great for gaming and OCing, less great for fah.

Option C:

Wait for new stuff and live with current crap-setup for another while.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Why would SLI be made hard at by running two monitors?

Yeah, you can do up to two monitors with SLI now.

I'd say the NVIDIA way, tbh. I have an 680i MoBo, and it's done me well so far.

Plus you seem to be into that folding stuff, so go crazy

Although personally I would go with 4870 since it performs the same as two 4850s in Crossfire
Spoiler (highlight to read):
In before sam saying you should get multi-cards only because they fold better

And keep your E7200 tbh

Maybe spend the money you were saving for a E8400 on a X38/X48 motherboard to improve Crossfire scaling?

Are no 4870 1GBs available, and with a screen this big, 512MB won't really suffice.

2x X8 is more than enough.

Ok, I've more or less decided on P5Q Pro, GTX260 216, a new 320GB HD and my E7200. All coupled with my HX520, case, a HDT1283 and an Accelero S1. Price for the mobo, graphics card and HD ends up at 422€.

y/n?

edit: the GTX 260+ is really nice card. You'll love it. Actually I'm considering eVGA GTX 260+ 55nm Super Clocked SLi....
