Finray: Is he right?

Finray: 1.6?
max: yeah
Finray: won't that break it though
max: just keep an eye on temps
max: intels manufacturing process is pretty good
Finray: you do know it's 45 nm not 65
max: they officially rate the i7s up to 1.65
max: they are 45nm too
Finray: compromise
Finray: I'll put it to 1.55
Finray: what should the fsb be?
max: Try for 320 and 1.55

But seriously if I were you I'd go to 1.5, check temps, then 1.55, check temps, then 1.6 etc. You might have got unlucky and got a POS batch. Freezer's a poorfag so he should know how much that 50 quid is worth to you.

I really wouldn't recommend over 1.5V for 24/7 usage tbh.

It's at 3.6Ghz at 1.55, FSB is 290. No errors in stress test so far.

If it really needs that much voltage, then damn, you got shit luck with batch.

Don't just stuff it to high voltage, only increase voltage when instability occurs.

Why would I need voltage? Max just keeps telling me to do stuff and I'm blindly following him :\

EDIT: With the VDrop CPU-Z says 1.5.. so meh

with Vdrop he's in the green zone again. 65°C with LinX is nothing

Have you even tried 3.6 with a lower voltage? The two main causes of wear on a cpu are heat and voltage (which also generates more heat). You should only use a voltage as high as you require to keep the overclock stable, and you should only overclock as far as temperatures allow.

You're not getting errors now but if it's running 1.55 all the time I assume you're planning to replace it in a year or two.

At 3.8 1.5VCore LinX stress test gives me an error, so Imma flash my BIOS and 'up the FSB termination voltage'.

If my E7200 can take 1.55 actual for months, his CPU can take 1.5.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

It's stable fully 3.625 at actual 1.5vc.

Meh, I'm happy with that.

EDIT: Temps are pretty low, thanks to the above poster. (30/34 idle)
