Comcast. Yes, erstwhile welcome emergency replacement for the strike outage at Qwest last year began running slow with intermittent disconnections last night, and continued on through multiple modem and router resets until this very moment...when I went to Speedtest.net. Then all was well.

Coincidence? You decide.

Regardless, FiOS looms in the future of my internet connection.

Yeah, you won't regret it.  Comcast kept dropping our connection periodically until we switched to FiOS, and as everyone knows, they also throttle(d) torrents.  FiOS is faster and doesn't do any of that.

I can't keep speak for their T.V. though since we're still using basic cable from Comcast.

Actually, sounds goofy, but the picture is notably better with FIOS even non HD. Comcast struggles to squeeze HD channel in, so they compromise their signal quality.

I suppose if going to Speedtest is somehow resetting priority, I'll have to keep it on the quick tab for the time being.

Interestingly, I haven't had problems with torrents so far. It started while I was playing Guild Wars, tbh, but continued through numerous hardware resets until I went to Speedtest. Curse Comcast for fostering new superstition.

As for TV, youtube, games, blu-ray and dvd's far outperform its entertainment value.

Connection just grew sloppy again. Another visit to Speedtest.net corrected it...

I'd believe it.

We're still using analog cable, lol.  Though the HDTV we got has a decrypter in it that gives us some digital channels but they all have decimals in the number like channel 121.14 and you have to cycle through a lot of decimals before you get one that works.  Plus they disappear after about an hour or so.  We even had Fox for a while and watched the last Superbowl in 720p.

Never had a problem with Comcast. My HD channels look amazing, and my internet is fast as fuck. I would switch to FiOS, but it's not available here.

I pay the same price as Fios for the same speed.

Cable modem FTW!

Yeah, I got similar results, but five minutes after I left the site, it slowed down for another several hours. Couldn't even use the net half of the night, because the cable modem couldn't maintain a connection.

What kind of modem do you have? Take it to the Comcast store and tell them you want a new one.

Isnt comcast the company that had worse customer service ratings than the IRS?

Arris. I don't think it's the modem. If it was, then spades of intermittent connectivity would've been non-stop, not just off-and-on.

Either run a ping test, or tracert.  How can you tell the connection is sloppy?  Poor download speeds?  Lag in game?  Torrent download slows down?

i have an Arris. for the phone.
after a T in the mainline, i have a motorola for the i-net connect.
Comcast techs will tell you you can't do it - tell them to STFU and talk to the supervisor.
the super can de-activate the internet part of the Arris, and enable the [whatever brand modem].
the supervisor i talked to also walked me through the dB i needed for the T, and did quality assurance after i connected.
