A pink pistol owned by plaintiff Alan Chwick was at the center of the case. . . . The county law allows black, brown, grey, silver, nickel and green handguns and exempts gold-plated ones or antiques. In his decision, Supreme Court Justice Kenneth A. Davis dismissed an argument that state law preempted county regulations on handguns, ruling that the Nassau law "addresses a distinct class of weapons implicating unique, underlying policy concerns and objectives." Further, the judge ruled, as applied to Mr. Chwick's pink gun, the law was neither vague nor ambiguous. Chwick v. Mulvey, 13564/08, will be published Friday.
