The makers of Britain's most famous milk chocolate bar have decided to warn their customers that Dairy Milk contains - milk.

Cadbury Dairy Milk wrappers put milk first in a list of ingredients and explain that there is "the equivalent of three quarters of a pint of fresh liquid milk in every half pound of milk chocolate".

But Cadbury says it is also necessary to print warnings saying "CONTAINS: MILK" in case people who are allergic to milk do not realise that there is milk in Cadbury Dairy Milk.

The company is printing similar warnings on bars of Cadbury Dairy Milk Whole Nut warning customers that the bars contain both milk and nuts.

A Cadbury spokesman said the company was complying with the law relating to the presence of allergens in food.

Moira Austin, helpline manager for the Anaphylaxis Campaign said she could understand why people would say Cadbury was "stating the blindingly obvious" or think that the "world had gone mad".

She added: "The law requires manufacturers to list allergens if they are an ingredient. It does not require these additional warnings."

The real question is if it contains babies

It's milk CHOCOLATE, not a gallon jug of MILK.

Even I didn't know that there was milk in milk chocolate up until recently. You say the name, but one never thinks about the actual content.

You're the kind of person that inspires laws like this.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Although I don't read/pay attention to, the actual ingredients/warnings about a product, I'm not the type to sue because I burned my hand on a cup of Starbucks.(and I don't have any allergies to boot)

If I'm deathly allergic to dairy(which I'm not) I'd be pretty damn keen on reading all the warnings, the ingredients list is required by law, anything more is just retarded.

While it seems stupid there are all kinds of products that don't contain what you think they would. Sugar free candies, Fruit juices with no real fruit, ect...

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a synthetic version of milk chocolate somewhere for people who can't have milk.

And this is why while it may seem obvious, and the person may be smart enough to know that milk chocolate almost certainly contains milk, its on the package so they can verify with 100% certainty. When its that easy to put a warning on the package its just better not to risk serious medical conditions on assumptions.

To me, that message means:

Egg Box: Warning, since we know most of the populace is completely retarded nowadays, they sue us because they found eggs in an egg box!!! We must warn those stupid cunts of what is inside unless we want to go bankrupt due to lawsuits!!!
