I actually do, I HATE driving a car... I HATE having all the blind spots, I HATE not being able to see the ground in front of me, I HATE not being able to just use my head in a quick movement to be able to see all around me

I mean I prefer a bike because it handles better than a car, and I can summon up a good amount of acceleration when required... If someone pulls out in front of me, I turn my head, see theres no other cars, and jump into the next land and hit my horn in one quick motion... In a car I have to worry about a blind spot, and all that jazz

Also, in a Car its hard to judge where cars are (usually oncoming) but on a bike, I have a sense of the road and I can see better (I mean, theres the no tinting factor also... AZ cars are heavily tinted)

what do you guys think?

I know theres a few of you out there

btw I get my license (already took the class but im under 18) in... *checks phone* 13 days

That means I can drive on the Freeway [Legally] and I can drive at night [legally] (past 5:30, which has been a major limitation)

You may ride more safely on a bike, still doesn't mean the people in the cars will be able to spot you though.

yea, if you get hit on a motorcycle you have no chance your basically dead, however with a car you have a very good chance of surviving.

Yup. You should feel very, very vulnerable, because you are, and as soon as you feel too comfy, you're not going to concentrate as much, and you'll end up as roadkill.

Well I'm aware that the metal and airbags helps you out a lot...

I've almost caused a few collisions in a car, 3 in my blind spot, 2 running a 4way stop at night (couldnt see the sign until too late)

But I havent done anything in the nature of putting MYSELF in the way of danger, sure, the other day some guy turned right while I wanted to turn left, he was driving on the LEFT side  of the road (its america btw) and I slammed on my breaks (@ 10MPH you stop INSTANTLY) and layed down on the horn... fucking SUV...

And I get cars pulling out on me, but I know im driving a motorcycle, so I'm looking for it, and always ready (I wait for cars to pull out on me, I dont trust shit)

With the lack of security that comes on a motorcycle comes a mind that is constantly waiting for some dumbass to try something wreckless or stupid...

Lets put it this way, because I'm driving a motorcycle its harder to see me, also people arent looking for me in the first place... So people do pull out or turn into my lane, and I give them slack because I am low and small... But if i WAS in a car, I would have had at least 4 collisions in the last 4 months, mainly because I simply could not stop the vehicle fast enough... A bike is light, if you know how to safely do it without sliding, you can stop VERY fast...

and please guys, its easy to judge, so if youve never been on a motorcycle dont talk about it like you have

Thats the point of it, you never feel comfortable with the other drivers, so your always looking...

Im sure if you were cocky, thought nothing could touch you, and you rode a motorcycle like you do a car... You would be dead meat within the week (at least in AZ, worst drivers ive ever seen)

On a bike you're relying on others to notice you and ultimately your safety is in their hands.  I prefer not to put myself in that position, especially with the amount of fuckwits I see out on the roads these days.

I used to want to learn how to ride a bike, but my dad who was a real bike enthusuast was nearly killed when he was involved in a 90mph collision.  In the end he broke his back amongst other things and is lucky to be walking today.  That was enough to put me off.

It's more comfortable to ride for you, but in the end it's not who you determines how safe it is.

Fact is, it's a lot more dangerous riding a bike no matter who much more you can see.

I love riding my bikes. (on and off road) but there are just too many idiots out there that pull out into bikes etc.

Bikes = Enjoyment

Cars = Safety (for long or busy trips)

You have it completely wrong

When you ride you dont just go, "I hope that guy about to turn left into my lane at the intersection sees me!" as you think

You think, "Okay, this fucker is edging towards my lane, he looks like hes in a rush, im going to get into the far right lane and decelerate to let him go, if he doesnt go and I'm close enough I will hit the gas to get out of there"

You also start to profile people as you move past them or when at a stop light

"This chic is in her 30's, is on a cellphone and a BMW convertable, she seems like the rich type who thinks she has the right of way all the time because of the car she drives... *mental note* keep an eye on the blue BMW*"

Guys... I didnt post this thread to ask all the car drivers opinions on how they might feel if they might have ridden a motorcycle on the street...

I posted to ask the other riders, who do ride on the street, if they feel safer / more comfortable riding a motorcycle rather than a car

Im attracting the wrong crowd with this title

I will try to get it renamed, "Do you feel more confident in your abilities/the bikes abilities when riding a motorcycle rather than a car?"

If your a good rider bikes are great. good fun, although alittle more dangerous... the only problem is inexperienced riders on crappy little mopeds trying to do 100kmph down a highway or inexperienced riders on GSXR 1000's trying to do 300 kmph down a highway. lol

This is true

I ride a Honda Shadow 750cc

And Im not a dumbass that tries to go 200mph down the freeway and beat his 0-60 record at every stop light

The bottom-line is that it's so much more difficult to spot a bike than it is a car, you can't deny that.  At times, no amount of anticipation is going to to prevent an accident.  Although a skillful biker will always reduce the chance of an accident, there becomes a point where even the best bikers can't prevent the inevitable.

Anyway apologies for the derail, that is all from me.  But like you said the title was slightly misleading

Yeah I wholeheartedly agree with you

You can avoid, and prevent and not follow cars, but if two cars simultaneously become parallel with you (for whatever reason) and you have a tailgaiter, and the car infront of you slams on the breaks, your toast for sure... I mean I could stand up on my seat and jump into the air as the cars impact the bike, and then do a barrel roll and roll on the road to decrease the impact,  and then finally roll into a standing position and then just stand there with my fists on my hips and a foot up on the tire captain morgan style

But thats me....

Hawaii is curvey... Your safer when you can see 600 feet ahead of you on a straight road and when there isnt a huge cliff to your right...

Its a nice car, but my headrest and the frame behind the door makes a huge blindspot on my left hand side

maybe its the tinting on it

The time I drive is around sundown and night time, because I cant take the bike and practice gets out at 5pm, 40 or so minutes before sundown

Everyone that I have personally known that has used motorcycles for normal usage and weekend drives has gotten fucked by them.

One guy I know ate a couple hundred yards of pavement while avoiding a head-on.

One guy had a metal bar placed in this leg and walked with a gimp for a year because he smashed it  to shit when another car bumped him in a turn.

And another guy I worked for had his life ruined(was a firefighter) when he had to have one of his legs amputated due to a motorcycle incident.

I know a number of people that have been in car accidents and have gotten out without a scratch. This is rare with a motorcycle.

How do you feel safe on a bike?  Whenever I play racing games, the first thing I do is swerve into all of the bike racers to put myself ahead a few seconds.

But I'm sure there is a certain experience only achievable by riding a motorcycle...
