Budget: £500 Max

Usage: Photoshop, big files, lightroom, low spec occasional gaming. (Like CoD2/BF1942)

Needs: High amount of HDD space, preferably 4GB RAM.

Include: EVERYTHING. (Monitor, mouse, keyboard, whole box with case, psu etc)

Dad's prebuilt came with no CDs or anything, no OS cd, so he's taking it back (which is the right choice tbfh).

And...go.

EDIT: Could also be a laptop. _{but don't recommend a laptop because they're gay}

Cammy (schloppy) comes into my room, "Did Dad buy a box of fail?" I couldn't have put it better myself.

If you're dad's technically minded, fine, go for it

If he's not, i'd stay stick with xp/vista (depending on your personal preference). I hear http://cristgaming.com/pirate.swf is giving out free downloads of windows too

Your Dad actually did the right thing first time round - you can get better specs, if you're willing to shop around (and make sure you're gonna get original media), in the sub-£500 price bracket, from a pre-build than you can with a self-build.

BUT, for every £100 you add to the budget, you'll get a better price/performance return from self-build than from pre-build (until you start going over the £1500-£2000 (approx) range, then, either way, the price/performance ratio drops away sharply).
