I found this 26" monitor and thought it was a great deal. I might buy it, but the only thing holding me back is the brand... Westinghouse. I've never heard of them. Not sure if that's a serious problem or not, all I know is 26" for $270 is outstanding. Input?

I would be upgrading from a 24" monitor.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. QFT: My new Samsung is TN, the horizontal viewing angles are fine these days, but verticle the colour fucks up a little, fine if you're sat right in front but, on BIG screens, the top/bottom is always going to be off the perfect line so it'll be off colour, specially with a low grade 750:1 panel, mines 20k:1 and still does it if I look down on it. TN is perfectly fine (I still love mine) but, only on 22" and smaller, mates 24" colour distorts and thats a top end monitor, but still a TN panel, they're becoming annoyingly common.

I know, that's why I got all excited - that price is amazing. But it looks like the verdict is don't buy. I didn't even realize the contrast ratio is only 750:1. That's enough to set me off.

750:1 is decent-ish. Don't be fooled by dynamic contrast.

Dynamic contrast is nothing short of a joke. Sure, it might work somewhat, but it can't match a panel that would actually be even half of those values they state. GG viewing something bright and dark at the same time.

The difference between 750:1 and 1000:1 isn't as drastic as it sounds. There is a difference, I don't deny that, but you need to basically cut the contrast in half to make a noticeable impact. Just like how you need to raise the volume by 1000% on your stereo to "hear" a 100% gain.

that 750 will be a low end panel, poor quality and will almost certainly have backlight bleed too, getting a mid range, decent brand panel will be miles better. It's not so much the number but the quality it implies.

And dynamic contrast works pretty well these days, sure 20k:1 isn't a true representation of what it can really do but it's a long way above the 1k:1 the panel does without it (and the light/dark mix thing isn't a problem on new monitors).

I still dislike TN anyway despite defending it just now, my Sammy is basically top end and it's still not good enough for graphics work, gaming and everything else it's fine but PVA eat's it's face for colour reproduction and clarity, which is why I still have my S-PVA 17" sat next to it, years old and still raping the face of anything I've put by it.

From what I've read the T220 has a lower quality panel than the 2233bw, check for yourself though. That said it will still be epic for gaming and general use, 100% perfect colour reproduction is only ever noticable or indeed necessary if you do graphics work, all gaming needs is no backlight bleed, no blurring and decent brightness, which both the T220 and 2233bw do brilliantly.
