Theory:

The man with Jacob is the smoke monster.  We've seen it take the forms of people before...and we know it understands people better than we could imagine.  Locke never came back to life.  The smoke monster was impersonating him so it could kill Jacob and protect the island.  Notice how we've never seen the smoke monster and Locke2.0 in the same scene?  When Ben was in the temple and he fell down, Locke2.0 didn't come over to help him right away.  The smoke monster showed up...took the form of Ben's daughter, and told him to listen to everything "Locke" had to say.  Smokey then took the form of Locke again and showed up to ask Ben if he was all right.  Now that Smokey has Ben following Locke2.0's every word, he's going to have Ben kill Jacob...which is what the man (dressed in ALL black, remember) with Jacob said in the beginning of the episode.

Also, remember that the man with Jacob said he'd find a loophole.  As soon as Jacob saw "Locke", he instantly knew what was going to happen.

You have a point there. Had to check the finale intro. The black shirt guy says: "You know how badly I want to kill you?" Jacob replies "I know" Shirt dude says "One day I'll find a loophole". But what are those two guys? Aliens? Gods? Characters who got the writers too high? Anyways, I think that everything that happens until the very end is what is supposed to happen in order for this to start all over again so to speak. Even though Jacob says it can only end once and everything else until that is just progress. All I know is I have ants in my pants for the next 9 months.

My friend who also watches LOST religiously with me has pretty much the same theory, so you're not alone.

Sounds like the best one so far.

Oh, also...

Since day one, the producers and writers have been saying that there's a HUGE hint in the first episode, "The Pilot".

Now, we all know that when the plane crashed, the smoke monster basically hunted down the pilot and killed him.  However, we also know Frank, the ace helicopter pilot and man who flew that route so often.  HOWEVER, what if the episode's title "The Pilot" isn't about it being the first episode...but it being about the pilot of the plane.  Maybe the smoke monster, like Jacob, knew the destinies of the survivors.  But what if Frank was supposed to fly that route that day and didn't.  Maybe Jacob, like how he did with Sayid and the others, interfered and made sure he couldn't fly that day.  So now that Frank is back on the island, maybe he has a bigger destiny...and a larger role to play in the final season.   Remember, they were escorting him to Jacob's lair.  Why would they do that unless they knew who he was...and who he is going to become.

Let's take the aliens part further. Why would aliens allow ppl to come to the island in the first place if they use it for example as a safe haven?

Remember, Jack, Kate, and Charlie (I think it was Charlie) return to the cockpit for medical supplies or a radio or something.  When they get there, they find the pilot.  The smoke monster shows up and grabs the pilot (and only the pilot), kills him, and then disappears, even though Jack, Kate, and Charlie are there as well.

Yeah...I kind of pay too much attention to Lost.

Everything I said is based on evidence in the show...but you also kind of need to pay attention, which is why I like Lost more than other shows.  It's not really something that you can come in and be like "oh yeah, that happened last week.  Cool."  You actually need to pay close attention to everything.

Really, the only thing I haven't gotten yet is the four-toed statue...though it looked like it was either a statue of Anubis or Horus.

The interesting thing...is that if it's a statue of Horus, we also have the Dharma guy named Horace.

Horus/Horace link, perhaps?

The statue is Anubis. I still don't get WHY it's there though or the significance of it.

Horus had a bird mouth, Anubis has more of a snout - just like the statue.

I was leaning toward Anubis too, but I can't figure out why or how it ties into the story then.  And also, the four toes still throws me off.  At least with Horus, I could connect it to the douchey Dharma guy.

Al Trautwig, a sports commentator, does a sort of recap after every new episode airs.  Some of his ideas are pretty interesting, here's the one he did after "The Incident" -

If Locke is really dead then I'm not watching Lost again.

I love Faraday. Probably because I loved him in Saving Private Ryan. Even though he did cause the Brooklyn guy to get killed.
