I am Canadian
+72|6700|B.C. Canada
So I have applied for the Canadian Forces as infantry a couple months back and finally got the call to fly down to Vancouver to do my CFAT, medical and interview. I havent told anyone in my family/girlfriend about this cause they would go all ape shit on my ass ( I once told them that I want to be an infanteer and they fucking called me stupid and laughed at me for months so I never brought it up again) because they have this idea of me being a tradesman (plumber, electrician etc...) and its not for me. I dont know how to tell any of them.
My dad would say I am an idiot and that I wont get nothing out of it, that when I come out of the army I well have no skills etc. I want to tell him to shove is fucking joint up his ass. My mom wants me to be a Police Officer so it shouldnt be that hard to convince her this is what I want ( my parents are divorced and live in seperate towns so I need to tell them both). Now my girlfriend doesnt want me to join because I well be away from her and I can die blah blah blah. If I have to I well leave her ass. So please anyone some advice would be great.

speaking as a former grunt........ you cannot convince them.  a grunt is just something you are born to do imo.(volunteer ofc)  i would not change it for the world.  but, as for being a police officer, that should do it.  i know when i joined, most cops i came across were grunts.

My Mom and Dad threw a shit fit when I wanted to be a Grunt, I joined way before 9/11. They were very proud that I joined but pissed because I wanted to be in the Infantry.

I was a G.R.U.N.T in Canada, a LONG time ago. Started with the Reserves and did alot of "callouts" with 1 RCR when they were in London (Ont).
I had the same problems with my Folks and friends that you are.
IF.... it's what you REALLY want, then do it.

I will say this, the biggest challenge you will have, is with yourself.
You will be pushed to what you think, are your limits and will find they aren't.
You will "hit the wall" and climb over it.
And, most likely, you will come to trust guys that you wouldn't let NEAR your kid sister
When I'm asked about my time in, I always say the same thing.
It was an experience that was worth a million dollars, that I wouldn't take to repeat.
