I want to reinstall my computer, and since I have a 640 GB external HD, I figured I might as well back everything up on it.

I backed up all my music and pictures on it a while ago, but now it suddenly won't let me back up anything in the GBs, saying there's not enough space.
There's damn well 529 GB free on it.

I thought the built-in hard drive needed some space for temp files while transferring or something, but that one has 19 GB free.

I can transfer small files like pictures fine though.

Any ideas?

Nevermind. Figured out FAT32 doesn't accept files over 4 GB. Guess I gotta backup my backup drive.

Sounds like summat's fubar'd - grab some screenies of info and post here please, as follows:

1. Right-click My Computer and select Manage to open the Computer Managenment Console...
2. Under Storage, select Disk Management and ensure you can see the external hdd in the list and you can see the % Free column...
3. Grab Screeny, upload, post.

then

4. Still in the Computer Managenment Console...
5. Also under Storage, select Disk Defragmenter...
6. Select the external HDD, then click Analyze and wait for it to finish...
7. Grab Screeny, upload, post.

thanks.

(oh and in case you don't know - to grab a screeny of an app, press PrtScn (to put picture of screen into clipboard), load Paint, Paste, Save...)

Hmm..I'll try that if changing the file system thing doesn't work.

Ah, yes... FAT32 is indeed limited to a 4GB max file-size.
