Unable to Connect to LAN

I wake up this morning, turn on my computer from when I put it in Hibernate last night and it tells me there's a cable unplugged to my internet connection. I check the back and it's plugged in. So I unplug it and then plug it back in, but still no progress. I hadn't restarted my computer in a about a week so I figured I'd give that a shot. Computer comes back on and still nothing. I reset the router and still nothing. I try plugging my cable into different ports on the router and still nothing. In fact, the LAN isn't even showing up anymore in my network connections. I try the windows utility to create a new network and it seems to succeed, but then the wired network still isn't showing up. I figure somehow my ethernet port must've been disabled. I pop in the driver CD that comes with the motherboard and apparently the network drivers are already installed since it's not even showing up as an option to install. Device manager is only showing my wireless network card, but not the ethernet, and my wireless connection is still working just fine.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
OS: Windows XP 64-bit Professional
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
4 GB RAM
ATi Radeon HD 3850

Try to type in the IP for your router manually.
Maybe it's just an error of your internet provider.

Try reinstalling NIC drivers. They should be somewhere on the Gigabyte site.

I'm able to access the router by typing in the IP.

Also, it's not and ISP problem because the wireless is working just fine.

Have you tried another web browser?
I got the same problem too a few days ago.
Just opened internet explorer... dead.
Opened FireFox and it worked fine.

Both IE and FF are failing.

I went to the Gigabyte site and ran their DriverAgent thing. It shows that my NIC Ethernet thing is disconnected...

If it's a dead port, does that mean I need to buy a new motherboard or hope that this current one is still under warranty?

That's the thing, I can't even reactivate it. It thinks my LAN has been disconnected.

I uninstalled the NIC driver just now and I'm going to install whatever one is on Gigabyte's website. Gonna restart and hopefully this will work.

Thanks for all the help so far If it's still not working soon I'll have to worry about this later. Got class in about an hour so I won't be back until later this evening.

make sure you try a different cable before you replace the card... could be a much cheaper fix if it's the cable. sometimes the wires come loose inside the rj45 connector...

Sounds like the LAN controller on the mobo has been borked.

Do you have everything running through surge-protectors?

'cos this is probably what's happen...

You've had a spike, possibly originating from the phone-line - if that was source, you're lucky it didn't take anything else with it - ideally you should run the line from the phone-socket into a surge-protector and then into the router.

The other possible (and probably more likely) source would be any other PC/console(s) connected to the LAN - ideally you need everything on the LAN surge-protected, otherwise a spike can go down the LAN popping controller chips as it goes...

God fucking dammit!

(First off, cord's fine and everything's plugged into a surge protector)

Anyways, I picked up an ethernet card and plugged it in and it works, yay! But also, when I turn on my computer, the original NCI that was "broken" in the first place is now working.

I swear this is the last time I buy a Gigabyte mobo. I've had problems with USB ports dropping in and out as well...

Now the next question is: return the new NCI and get my $20 back, or hang on to it in case my computer pulls this kind of shit again?

Ok, I'm really getting pissed off now. My internet is working fine, but now when I try playing BF2 it crashes after being in game for 1 minute. Had it happen at least 5 times now over the past 10 or 20 minutes. Is it possible that there could be conflicting drivers causing this? I uninstalled the drivers for the on-board NIC and disabled that one but I still got a crash. I just now updated my drivers for the new card, going to test BF2 now.

Nope. Room temp. stays mainly the same. And no heat sources or windows nearby.

Ooh, good idea! Haha, I can't believe I didn't think of that.

Although there was one time when I first built the computer and after the OS was installed I installed a BIOS update utility that came on the CD that came with the mobo and it completely fucked my system and I had to reinstall OS.
