I dunno, I'd never void my XBox warranty (This thing would be flashed in no time if it wasn't for all the RRoD's - can't risk losing the warranty )haffeysucks wrote:
personally, i would buy another one. go for the jasper if you can, and once you get it, put some nice AS5 on the chips instead of their shitty thermal epoxy (that's really what it is, that stuff is like glue)Yellowman03 wrote:

from what i see i need to send it back for repair. It's a first-gen 360, so would it be better to repair or buy a new one?
I dunno. I'd have to look at it. Btw i cant make it to the gunshow in gwinnett. Too far of a drive supposedly.phishman420 wrote:
So why does it do it if I turn the Xbox on for 5 seconds, turn it off, then turn it back on? No way it can overheat that fast.NeXuS wrote:
I bet i can. E74 is just the xbox overheating. Take off the x-clamp throw in some arctic paste, replace the washers, buy a better fan, take off the metal casing on the back and if you want replace the side with a window panel and put a 80mm fan cover over it to let extra heat out. And your done.phishman420 wrote:
Bet you won't fix mine. E74 all up in dat azz.
Yeah, it sucks that it's all the way in Gwinnett. I really will pay you if you can somehow fix this Xbox.NeXuS wrote:

well yeah, i mean, that's the risk you take. but considering all of the RRoDs are cause by heat, AS5 replacement and RAMsinks go a very long way. maybe even a 12V fan mod.Jenspm wrote:

maybe not in 5 seconds, but give it 15 seconds from a cold start and it'll get hot enough to overheat. you'd be surprised. i actually have taken apart a few and in 15 seconds, even the heatsink is at the point where it's almost too hot to keep touching.phishman420 wrote:

there's no guarantee you'll get a jasper chipset. you can tell by looking at the PSU and manufacturing date. link to article: http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/10/insi … al-consol/Yellowman03 wrote:

yeah it's doable. it takes 10 minutes of patience, said hair dryer, and sometimes a razor. although you can buy replacement stickers as well.Finray wrote:

Spoiler (highlight to read):
Rip the face plate off. You could try opening it up from the inside and seeing if theres anything blocking the tray in there

what's the deal
I've seen 4 red-ringed X360's at stores. It was one of the things that convinced me to buy a PS3. MS will have to convince me with their next console.
