My new monitor arrived today and as my comp is still broken I connected it to my laptop.

There's a green flickering over the whole screen, less noticble when the screen is mostly white (like on google) but when the screen is black there's green 'scan-lines' all over the screen.

I know it's not that monitor because it's fine when I bring up its menu onscreen.

Any ideas?

Just tried that now with the cable connecting my old monitor to my laptop and it's no different.

So you have the same result on teh old monitor as well as the new one?  If thats correct could be the on-board video card.  Try lowering the resolution?

No the old monitor works fine on both laptops.

Tried lowering the resolution.

I think it's something to do with the refresh rate.

The very first time I plugged it in to my laptop it worked fine. I close the lid on my laptop, came back, opened it and it was green!

Ok, try restarting it?  Do you have a setting set to were it goes to sleep mode or stand by when you close the lid?

Remove the sitting and restart the computer.  See if that fixes it.  Also take another picture of the problem please.

Try install monitor drivers and video drivers again.  My monitor had drivers for it and it was an Acer.

nothing having to do with being old. Large monitors + analog signals just won't look as good as digital. Especially if there's EM interference from somewhere else

There is a possibility that the monitor could have a bad D-Sub port.  Is there any way of test your DVI port?

I think it could be interference. I have amp+speakers next to it, it could also be from the charging laptop?

Just call the guy upstairs with a macbook pro (with dvi port) brb

Another words... old tech... thats why they made the DVI port to begin with.

it's an analog vs. digital thing, not old vs. new really

It must be the shitty analog signal, it worked fine using the dvi cable.
