fuck.

this makes me want to make the jump to an SLR.

everyones pictures look so much better than mine, and i know my busted ass sony is holding me back.

what does a good entry level slr go for anyway?

I took this at the Sydney Festival a few weeks ago with our old point and shoot camera. It looks more like it came from my DSLR..



It's about technique, and being able to apply it to any camera system.



If anyone has any questions on technique, or questions about Canon gear (cause thats what I use), feel free to ask away!

feck, I can't get this lightroom plug-in to work

It appears as "activated and running" or whatever in plugin manager, but it doesn't appear in the Export menu.... Do I have to do anything in between?

The flickr one? It was pretty easy from what I remember. I'm heading to work now but I'll check in a bit.

no, I couldn't find where to sign in


In the configuration page, it said sign in in the export page, and flickr wasn't a preset in said page.

Ahhhh, ya, that's probably it.


Anyways, I uploaded one photo (and added it to the group) the old fashion way earlier today, I'll do the rest when I get home on Monday

I guess it is something in between bridge and PS. I prefer it over the bridge since it allows me to develop and organize my images quickly, yet it is not as bulky as PS. Like bridge I can quickly open in PS if I need to do more graphical work, but I can also process camera raw images inside of lightroom. It has dramatically increased the efficiency of my work flow (painting on metadata is ). It allows me to make quick and dirty web galleries also. Overall it's more of a preference rather than an improvement. It grows on you the more you use it. You need to watch some tutorials to fully appreciate it.

No. Better would be to limit it to new pictures taken for this.

Agreed, and i'll admit I'm terrible at taking pictures, but it sure sucked when I couldn't adjust any of the setting on my digital camera

Tis a pretty simple setup, to be honest.   And to think, she hurt me (that woman knows how to pinch..) for putting the photo on flickr. Apparently she doesn't look that good, tho I disagree. Amirite?

EDIT: In terms of lighting, I think this one was my best effort for outside:

LIGHTING: Having worked out the composition, I took an exposure of Garry and Kit to determine the ambient light level. I then knocked that down about two stops.

The strobe and umbrella were then added to act as the main light source - they were placed in line with the sun, to simulate that light source and keep the direction of the lighting looking natural.

Single 430EX camera right on a stand, fired into a Westcott 43" shoot through umbrella. 1/2 or 1/1 power. Triggered via pocketwizards.
