Korea is to acquire the world's fastest wired and wireless Internet service at 10 times the speed of the current service by 2012. The government and the communications industry plan to invest some W34 trillion over the next five years in the project. The Korea Communications Commission finalized plans for Internet services at an average speed of 1 Gbps through fixed lines and 10 Mbps through wireless. One Gbps allows users to download a 120-minute film in just 12 seconds. The aim is to give users seamless access to large-capacity, high-quality convergence services such as IPTV.

Although the super-speed internet will be available mainly in large cities, fixed-line subscribers in smaller towns in Korea will also have access to 50 to 100 Mbps Internet service allowing them to watch IPTV programs without a hitch.

For what it's worth I used to watch my replays of Starcraft and Warcraft III all the time. You tend to notice your mistakes.

I work for an ISP, and operate a national network in Denmark that could easily handle this, but there's just no market for it. Koreans benefit hugely from the high adoption and dense population centers. Crazy Starcraft players the lot of them.

For technicality's sake, it's a student taught course that offers 2 credits.. or 1, can't remember. Better then none though.

1Gbps is roughly 115MiB/s after protocol overhead in large packets. It's definitely not unrealistic to write at these speeds to small RAID arrays or quality SSDs. These connections also handle high definition IPTV, VOD and VoIP, and if you've got three or four TVs going on different channels in high definition, low loss MPEG streams, the remaining bandwidth could easily be maxed with a recent 7200 RPM disk.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. I mean I figure iTunes might be able to do it I usually get like 1.5-3.0MB/s when purchasing a movie, but is it reasonable to say that someone with a 1GB/s connection will download things substantially faster than any 10MB/s + connection?
