really poor advice there.  Protein poweders are natural, whey is dervied from the cheese making process.  As Wah points out its strictly a supplement to be used at the right time to ensure protein is rapidly absorbed i.e. post workout when the body is crying out for protein.  Any other time protein first and foremost should be gained from chicken, fish, beef etc

They will make him fat if he doesn't provide the necessary foundation for the protein to be utilised by his body, i.e. working out. If he just drinks a protien shake to gain mass without working out then he's just taking on extra calories.
Exactly.Your body doesn't care from where you get your protein.Your muscles will not grow without supplements.Workout regularly, drink protein, creatine, vitamins(fruit, veggies).I think protein reduces your calcium level so you must regenerate it by drinking milk or taking calcium pills.
It doesn't matter how many calories you enter in your system, just be sure you burn them all.
Exactly not ... when protein is taken out of it's natural source it behaves very differently and the body reacts differently to pure protein that it does with the same amount of protein in it's natural source ...
lol

that's why it's called ISOLATED protein and it's quality really depends on the process of isolating it.
Varegg you talk about proteins like they're something bad.
OP if you've seen all those guys with great bodies;they all take supplements, especially jocks because they need to refill their organism with protein after their musles spent them. There are some bad quality proteins but those you can buy in gym are pretty reliable.

lets see here

whey protein isolate

120 calories
1g fat
.5g saturated fat
cholesterol 40mg
sodium 60mg
carbohydrate 3g
sugar 1g
protein 24g

there is nothing wrong with taking protein powder, just get whey protein isolate, yes it makes a difference

mass gainer

990 calories
18g fat
18g saturated fat
cholesterol 150mg
sodium 115mg
carbohydrates 152g
sugar 60g
protein 55g

weight gainer isnt selective about what kind of weight you will gain, you will get fatter, and for the price just dump a bunch of protein powder, sugar, and oatmeal in a large bowl and voila you have mass gainer, shorter answer - weight gainer = dont do it

but seeing how youre only 19 forget the supplements, you dont need them, i repeat you dont need them. so how are you supposed to get bigger? eat food, lots of food, and dont say you dont gain, eat twice as much as you do right now and you will gain guaranteed, although that might be excessive. eat more, move less, sleep more and you will put on weight, just try to eat good like, oats, whole grains, chicken, fish, fruits, veggies, some red meats, etc. honestly diet is more important than exercising and supplements when it comes to mass, all the supplements in the world wont make up for a shit diet. here is a kind of hierarchy of importance - diet>exercise>sleep>supplements, yes sleep is more important than protein powder, your muscles and cns need time to recover. and if youre hungry when youre at the gym, eat more before you go, it seems youre burning more calories then youre taking in, and that equals weight loss.

Proteins and other vitamins can cause damage if used wrong so I'm not sure why you laugh it off, that's pretty common knowledge even if you know just a little about it tbh ...

Hence why it is important to check out the product you are going to use, not just trust the random in the gym because it worked for him ... it has to do with your diet, exercise level and metabolism ...

It might work just fine but why not take the xtra time to check it out before you stuff your body with something you prolly don't need, the body is a very complex mechanism and the wrong use of such supplements you will definitely pay for later in life ...

Laughing it off just makes you look ignorant ...

i got some casein protein, but haven't used it in a while .it's really hard to dissolve in water

oh, and has anyone noticed how hard it is to actually start lifting? You've got the motivation but you just don't have a good place to lift..the gym is full of fags, school gym is taken over by the lax team doing their 250 bench...I guess I just feel stuck, how did you "start" lifting?

Just mix it with milk, milk = more protein and kcals, and tastes better (guessing that you're trying to gain weight here). only downside is cost.

Schools gyms are usually full of bench/curl monkeys and retarded 15yo's sitting around doing exercises half-assed whilst chatting to their mate. I recommend signing up to a decent gym close to where you live, despite the school gym being free - the fact that you're paying to go to a gym every month will only motivate you more. Just remember to keep you lifting sessions to an hour max, the most common newbie mistake is over training. (I'm sure you will find a gym where there is an hour free a few times a week for you lift )
