It's the first sign of consecutive generations of inbreeding. Sorry, man.

I'm 18 in September yet my dentist has never mentioned anything about needing to get wisdom teeth pulled out. I have friends as young as 15 getting them pulled out. Am I one of the lucky ones?
Quite possibly.

It is very very very very very rare, but, I do believe, some people just don't get wisdom teeth.

With a lot of people they come through just like any other teeth, with no problems, so they never need pulling.

Also, I guess you've no sign of them coming through yet?

Can't remember exactly what age mine came through, but I, for some time, also wondered whether I even had any...

Then they came through no problem.

Then I wondered what all the fuss was about with wisdom teeth.

Not everyone has wisdom teeth anymore, more and more people don't (very few) ... some people don't have to remove them and some do and your age doesn't really matter but most often they are pulled before you are 25 if they cause trouble ...

Had to remove one myself and that was when i was about 30

Oo you got sources for that?

As I said in my post, I thought it was extremely rare.

Well after running my fingers through my mouth I can say I don't.  Maybe instead of wisdom teeth I got a bigger brain.

It is a fact that not everyone has a full complement of wisdom teeth.  I have 150+ hours of job shadowing dentists/oral surgeons, so I have seen several instances of people who only have top (or bottom) pairs (which sort of defeats the purpose of having any at all, since there are no corresponding teeth to grind against...).

It is also possible to have more than 4...I saw one poor girl with 6 wisdom teeth; 4 normal ones, then small, extra ones shaped kind of like canines beside the top pair.

It is also possible to have no wisdom teeth, although that is pretty rare and I never saw any cases like that.

Wisdom teeth aren't really needed, but the main reason to remove them is because they can be very hard to clean.  I have good oral hygiene, and chose to leave mine in, but despite my best efforts the back faces of the teeth were simply too far back to clean well, and eventually I got massive cavities and the teeth had to be pulled...unless you have a mouth like Steven Tyler, it may be best just to get them out now if you have insurance that will help pay for it.

As for dentists being a rip-off, some truly are, but many aren't.  Like most things, you unfortunately have to kinda "shop around".  I suggest asking around to get word-of-mouth recommendations, because literally "shopping around" for a dentist would obviously be an expensive proposition.

Taking good care of your oral health is actually quite important, so seeing a dentist at least once a year is pretty much essential to not getting cavities.  Pretty much everyone who comes in who hasn't been seen in over a year or two has at least one cavity.  Some people simply don't form plaque as bad as others, whereas some people are practially plaque factories, and should probably get professional cleanings at LEAST 2 times a year, maybe even more.  It's pretty amazing how much variance you can get in people that honestly are trying their best to clean their teeth.  So ask around, find a good dentist, and go at least once a year.

Also wisdom teeth can come in pushing all your other teeth around ruining any braces work you've had.

"Most adults have four wisdom teeth, but it is possible to have more or fewer."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wisdom_teeth

It cost me $445 per tooth. Not to mention the cost of anaesthesia and other general fees.
