Is there any way to do this? Currently I only have TF2 downloaded onto my XP install, and I want it on my W7 one, but I can't be bothered downloading it again.

Oh yeah I can't have two HDDs plugged in at the same time my mobo only has one IDE slot and I need both the plugs on the cable for HDD and DVD drive.. if that's relevent.

Steam stores the game files somewhere, so it should be possible.

The time it took to get a response could have been used to download the game... 2 whole hours...

copy the files from your XP Steam folder to your W7 Steam folder, i think that works.

Just go to steam, open up my games, right click on any game and go "backup game files" Then you can select which games you want to back up and the location. It makes some sort of image in certain sizes so you can backup to dvd or cd, or transport using a harddrive. Then you just install it on the other computer, easy as. But be warned, it took me about an hour for the whole process when I transferred the orange box to my other computer.

Don't bother with the backup scheme of Steam. \Program Files\Steam\steamapps\

Copy those from one computer to the same folder on the other. You may not need all those, you may need a couple more, I don't know for sure. However, that should save you the vast majority of download time.

Defiance, I tried that and for some reason it didn't work and just downloaded the updates after copying. I think you might also have to verify integrity of each game before and after copying the .gcf files over? Can anyone confirm?
