EA/DICE doesn't make any money from ranked servers. BF2 and BF2142 makes its money from sales and in game advertising (in BF2142). The ranked servers are owned and operated by hosting companies and they keep any money they make from the server rental.
It looks like it depends on Gamespy alone...
