So.... I just noticed something that wasn't there before the GTX 295... Appearantly the extremely hot exhaust air the GTX 295 pumped in my case actually damaged my sidepanel window.

There is a large colour distortion on upper part of the window that can be seen in light and >45 degree angle.

I tried cleaning it thinking it may be just some shit but its physical change... fooooooooooooooooook...

LOL

time to start building own open case I think...

tbh

that's with a 120mm fan right on the GPUs, no side panel, and 1.1Vcore

The metal of the case close to the GPUs is so hot that you can't touch it for more than a couple of seconds without burning youself

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

I guess they call it tinypic for a reason. I can't even read that.

My GTX260 warms up the whole speaker that's behind it. That's a 1cm thick wooden box packed with isolation, and a volume of ~15L.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I wonder if the 4870 gets just as hot ... if so, I may never have to run the heating in that corner of my apartment (perhaps the entire room) ...

AFIAK the TDP of the GTX295 and the 4870X2 is about the same (~>300W). The TDP of the normal 4870 is about half that then plus the cooler is more effective.

So no, by far not

I've had my huge balcony door open the whole winter with all my PCs dumping heat into the room

in summer you could just direct all your computer cases to blow air onto you

MY GTX295s currently work as feet warmers

In summer I'll have to outsource some of the PCs to my parents place. Or I'll have to get a huge AC

spent last hour cutting the pieces for test bench... looks little "rough" atm with no painting and all the puzzle pieces not connected to each other but.... its a start. It will be very simple. just something to hold the stuff somewhat secure compared to jsut using a box or something underneath the mobo. Colour of it is undecided but I guess black is the way to go....

edit: oh and its mostly wood

mine either.  although i'm using a T-Rad2 with 2 x 120mm fans.

for everyone who says their PC warms up the room - lucky bastards.  mine only heats up the room 1 degree Fahrenheit or so, and it's barely noticeable.

Panzer:  if i were you with that NZXT Lexa, i probably would have put a 120mm fan on the side panel as an exhaust fan.  would have probably helped direct some of that heat out the side of the case straight from the side vents, rather than probably having it pool up in the corner.

I have the giant clunky 6800 Ultra, and as much as that heats up my room, it's nothing compared to the Alesis QS6.1 to my left.
