We have the ground-ventilator-type heating system with an old Honeywell thermostat (not electric).

It seems to be stuck at 14 C, and refuses to turn on no matter where I set it.

I know my dad was complaining about the heating being on (I don't plan on freezing to death), so I'm wondering if there's a way to set the heating to a certain degree, and make it so it ignores the thermostat.

The thermostat itself doesn't have anything extra. Just one bar that shows the current temperature, and another moveable bar which sets the temp you want.

it's generally not a good idea to mess with your heating unit unless you know what your doing.  you can cause lots of 'undesired operation' if you start fiddling with it.

oh i misunderstood.  i thought you meant you like it warm, and your pops keeps turning it off so you were going to disconnect the thermostat  

if it's not working right, you're best bet is to call the pros.
