  • Reccomend a UK ISP for Good Ping and Reg in BF2 (DSL)?

Hi,

Could anyone living in the UK who actually has fairly good ping and hit reg reccomend a good Internet Service Provider (DSL not cable) please?

Currently Im with 2Meg AOL and have pings of 70-90+ most of the time. Sometimes its so bad I cant even walk straight without 'bouncing' off things and get kicked for "Lossing Key Packets" and "Corrupt Packet Flow"!

So Im looking to change provider - my line can support up to 8Meg and needs to have no download limit. Ignoring cost, which is considered the best for gaming? Are Virgin or BT supposed to be any good?

Thanks.

BT seems to be ok. Avoid Virgin

wow. I'm going to say the complete opposite. I'm on BT, worst reg ever ( probably depends on where you live)

If you live in an area for Virgin 50mb, get it. My mate gets 12 pings on 20mb. Some guy from NL I know, he has 50mb broadband and gets pings of 1/2 on NL servers

EDIT: Just read the OP properly, get BT, virgin is only good for cable

BF2 reg is never good.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I have aol 1mb (should be 8mb ) and used to ping 9 to multiplay servers

reg sucked, but without moving out of the UK you can't help that

I know Surgeons gets like a 5 ping in UK servers. Although he uses his Uni's ISP.

He gets some crazy download/upload speeds.

I use Be broadband, very good service. Get pretty much all of the 8meg line limit, no download limit. Only thing is the routers a bit shit but its free so...

Bt and virgin are both crap ISP's unless you can get cable internet in which case virgin do very good broadband. 02 are also good and pretty cheap (they literally bought be and just copied all of be's ideas and systems).

aol / talktalk / carphone warehouse here, its fucking shit, 30kb/s till 1am till 7am then i get 300kb/s and then back to 30kb/s. uk servers ping hovers around 110. its on PHORM aswell which is bad.

Luckily i dont pay for it!

So basically avoid BT, Virgin, AOL, Talktalk and Carphone Warehouse and you should right?

Thanks for all the replies guys! Seems a bit inconclusive - some people seem to love BT others hate it! Maybe it depends more on where you live rather than the actual ISP, I dunno? Be broadband always seeems to have good reviews but sadly I cant get it in my area. Im leaning more towards O2 now...

Freedom2surf, pricey but, my ping is never over 20.

02 and be are near enough identical so I would be surprisd if you could get 02 but couldn't get be as they use the same infrastructure.

You can get o2 in non-Be areas, except you can only get a reduced, not as fast, and slightly more expensive service.

Don't go for Bt, I used to work for them, and believe me, the service is shocking.
