Thats not that expensive. Beers usually around $5 for a schooner (485mL) in Australia. If you're into any heavy drinking buy your shit from a bottle shop. It could save you hundred in just 1 night. And thousands every year.

EDIT:
For example:
A shot of spirits ~$5
25 shots ~$125
A bottle of spirits ~$30-$35
With 25 shots.
Means you save $90

$5 for a beer.
$50 for a case with 24 beers.
You get 14 free beers
