Any suggestions?

Anything will do as long as it actually is scary.

Thanks

Depends what you find scary.

Japanese version of 'the ring' scared me shitless (well at least the last 20 minutes or so did)

Actually, I am definitely with Aries here.

The original Japanese 'The Ring' is genuinely freaky, in a psychologically-primed suspense way. No silly inane Hollywood "Boo! Made you jump!" moments, it's a much deeper and more riveting experience. You get over the subtitles after the first 5 minutes, it's just as easy to immerse yourself in a foreign-language film than it is to get into an English blockbuster.

And "foreign shit" is a bit of a poor-term considering how many films have dreamed of, tried to, and failed to capture the same horror that Ringu originally did.

Oh and it's terribly overhyped and played to shit, but The Blair Witch Project also genuinely spooked me the first time I saw it. Just get into the hype and viral marketing of it, believe that it's a real documentary, immerse yourself in a dark room and go on the ride that the film-makers take you on. Much better than silly jumpy-Hollywood movies with their boring cliche and banal predictability.

It was funny viral marketing and hype yes, but that's exactly the point.

Film doesn't need a Hollywood budget, an overpaid cast/director or bucketloads of silly effects and production to be scary.

Ringu (the original Japanese cult Ring) and Blair Witch are huge examples of this, and their marked success says it all.

It's scary that after Meet the Spartans that Seltzer and Friedman are still making films.

Meet the Spartans was also scary as it was also scary that after Epic Movie that Seltzer and Friedman were still making films.

Toy Story 2. I won't give too much away, but when Woody gets kidnapped you don't know what's going to happen next.

This is also good though:

'Foreign shit'.....

Just... Haha. Seriously. 'Foreign shit'..... Wow..... Umm...

Japanese cinema has been copied by Hollywood for about 40+ years now. I believe the trend started with the Seven Samurai.

Annoys me that a lot of french movies get copied in Hollywood too. Especially considering the french versions weren't that great in the first place. Taxi springs to mind. Don't know WHY Hollywood gave that one a remake. Wasn't exactly the most awesome movie ever made by France. Yeah sure it wasn't bad, but it wasn't exactly great. Pity the Hollywood verison is far, far worse.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
