Don't mess with them. Rest of the story and more images here:

Dirk had an accident. Below is the X-ray showing his totally crushed finger tip. It took 1 1/2 hours of surgery to remove the shattered bones and repair the damage. Medically speaking, he crushed his right index finger distal phalange. The magnets had a 50 cm (20 inch) separation when they decided to fly together.

He is lucky that he only lost a finger tip as opposed to his whole hand. The block Neo below is about 4" by 2" by 2" N45 with a pull force of around 700 lbs (320 kg). The disk is about 3" dia. by 2 1/2" thick N45 with a pull force of about 400 lbs (180 kg). That is his fingernail and some of his finger tip caught between the magnets.

Must take quite a bit of effort to separate them.

I loved those pictures, totally wrecked his finger tip! My Uncle did a similar thing about 10 years ago, but crushed his thumb in a press machine.

I don´t get it. He tried to seperate them and the force overwhelmed him, crushing his finger in-between?

I couldn´t read teh whole story cause the images made me hurl

No, the magnets flew together as he was holding one of them. A bit like striking your finger with a hammer (rather than striking the metal nail), but it's a magnetic force rather than applying the force yourself.

I have some magnets like that. If they are together...you basically need two vise grips and a hydraulic log splitter to take them apart. Pretty epic.

How'd you know?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I read the title as 'Neodymium midgets'

Yes, until I read the final few posts I assumed these midgets had really strong fingers...

We have some linear motors in work that are used to drive wheel heads on a grinding machine back and forth. The heads weigh about a ton or so. You have to be incredibly careful when changing the motor
