Ran the trial of SmartDraw, thought it was a decent timesaver, but would rather look around before dropping the cash. Anybody have a suggestion for a program I can use to draw up mechanical, networking and home theater layout diagrams and maintenance flowcharts? Free to >$250 preferred.

Microsoft Visio?

Comes bundled with Office 2007 Enterprise I believe.

I have that book, but you misunderstand. I want a program that can set up that style of a document, and was poking around for a winning piece of software.

About the same price. I heard Visio had less grid errors, but I don't know if they persist with SmartDraw 2008/9. Much rather have something that I can more easily set dimensions with than SD, though.

Look for an open office variant and you might get what you want, free!

I'll have to dig a bit more to see if there's anything less nasty than Draw. It's only about as free as the time it takes to find and properly install.
