At the risk of stating the painfully obvious, tried double clicking them like the little instruction says?
For some reason it's just pasting in what I already have there. I'm trying it out on a new blank document which is working but not here. Rather oddTheEternalPessimist wrote:

That's Macs for you, as a rather hillarious video once said, you aren't so much using a Mac more like tricking it into doing what you want it to do.
