Spacix cards, seems to be a Benelux thing only though. Basically it was a marketing ploy where all major soda, candy and candy bar companies started giving them with their products. It could display two images, depending on the angle you looked at it.


Oh, and good old marbles.

Caps/Pogs was an awesome fad just because it was outlawed at my school as a form of gambling. It became an underground thing, basically one kid if he wantd to earn some caps acted as sentry, (each player wold surrender one cap to him/her on arrival,) and if a teacher was coming we'd all gather our things and scarper. Then there were the bums who'd beg for caps from all those who had 'em. "Just one cap man! I'll pay you back," but we all knew they'd gamble it away so we told them to "buy your own."

THEN there were the Hyenas. Some people managed to collect a decent amount of caps, if they tripped and dropped them all over the place suddently the area would be filled with Hyenas snatching up as many caps as they could and running away leaving the poor kid who dropped them sobbing while trying to gather up what caps they could. You couldn't tell the teachers after a while because although initially they were sympathetic to the kid who'd lost their caps eventually the Hyena menace became too frequent so they just gave up.

Everone had thei "kit", a small square of carpet, their favourite slammer, (occasionally replaced by a massive old-style NZ 50 cent coin,) their "Poison Pirate" tubes to hold their collection, (a common trick if you had too many was to cut the bottom of one tube, attach it to another to create an ultra tube, some got as long as a meter - I had a double one myself.)

It was a fucking cult and looking back on it all now it's hilarious.

Other fads I remember were "Oddbodz" cards that you got in chip packets. This fad was eventually ruined by the addition of "Space Oddbodz", (which were still kind of cool,) and killed by "Footy Oddbodz", (with pictures of League players.) They tried to bring it back with "Hypervision" Oddbodz but by that stage no-one cared.

I had masses of Oddbodz, I think I've still got them somewhere in the depths of my old childhood shit taking up room in the garage.

Ooh, another cool one was the Diablo. Anyone remember that? It was a toy from like the Victorian era jazzed up for modern kids. You'd do tricks with it and stuff, they looked like this:

You'd juggle the thing with the two sticks and the length of string. It was really quite cool.

I also remember Chatter Rings although I never saw the thrill in that thing.
