OK Mr. Teddy, I believe you.

The fact that almost the whole uni is very sports orientated also influences the drinking culture with the 3 times- a week savage socials.
Yeah, very true. Though they have introduced an "AU Night" here (Athletic Union) where all the clubs are supposed to hold their drinking socials. Works reasonably well and contains the drinking to one night. Though obviously clubs hold socials on other nights too ...
Sounds like a good idea...here they have it on Wednesday but also unofficially on saturday and monday.

I personally of Exeter and it's drinking culture and am even considering leaving this god forsaken place after I've finished this year.

That doesn't sound like an "AU Night" to me.

To a different uni in the UK, or back to Norway? Honestly, not all uni's are anything like what you describe. Sure people drink a lot, but even then the union is only open Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Wednesday and Friday are the big nights out, Monday is pretty empty. This year I only go to Friday, although I don't even go every week any more. I think I got the whole drinking three nights a week thing out of my system somewhere towards the end of last year.

Christ i thought you knew.  I winced when i saw Keele....same with Exeter.

It's best to stick to the big cities and/or Universities i.e. Nottingham, London, Durham, Bristol, Oxbridge, Manchester, Birmingham etc

Dude Keele is awesome. Admittedly some of the buildings are a little crap, but no worse than any other uni I've visited. And it's gotta be better than that Al Qaeda training camp you went to.

EDIT: And TBH, coming from a private school, I was well aware that British unis were going to be a little scratty compared to that.

It's a couple of random buildings slapped in a field out in the middle of nowhere and the nearest 'civilisation' is Stoke on Trent *shudder*

Fair point, Stoke is a shithole. Newcastle is ok though.

EDIT: Don't you live in Bradford? I was under the impression that was a complete shithole as well?

Newcastle Under Lyme is a village.

Bradford, urggh it's prob just as bad as Stoke.  Fortunately i work away from home a lot and went to Durham (BA MA) and Liverpool University (MSc) so haven't spent a lot of time there.  Wasn't born/grew up there either.

The nice thing about living near Stoke is that you're always pleasantly surprised at how nice places are when you go somewhere.

Doubt it would make much difference, would perhaps be easier to identify people who are really underage. Tho i was just turning 16 when i was getting blasted down the pub, but i guess at that age i looked probably 18 but not 21.

All the people that are saying it wouldnt make a difference. It might not make a difference to being able to drink, but getting into clubs would be almost impossible cos they all ID here.

Plus uni nights would be completely useless cos they couldnt serve alcohol

I don't actually think uni without alcohol would even work.
