Picture comparison of hard drive sizes

I recently managed to get a 3.5" drive, a 2.5" drive, and a 1.8" drive all in the same room so I decided to take this picture to show a comparison in size. I would've put an ancient 5.25 drive in there but I couldn't find one, lol. THis was taken in school btw, I didn't steal anything.

The 3.5" probably came out of one of the older computers our school get donated to them by the Navy.

The 2.5" came out of one of the Thinkpads issued to teachers.

The 1.8" came out of a broken Zune I recently obtained. Tis the exact same model used in the 30GB iPods as a matter of fact.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

It would be cool if they made a 5.25" SSD with the same connectors as the Bigfoot. That might make a promising little torrent server, lol. Hell, maybe even a porn machine too if the rest of it can handle video.

How would the Bigfoot ever be of any use? You can get hard drives that are half the size and with 5 times the storage capacity for DIRT cheap ... and the performance is higher.

True but free is still better than DIRT cheap. I have quite a few 8-20 gig drives laying around. I've used them for OS drives on file servers for home use and kid's pc's where the performance isn't really needed. plus there is no place around here to recycle stuff like that and i'm not throwing electronics in the landfill.
