Family who are 'too fat to work' say £22,000 worth of benefits is not enough

Philip Chawner, 53, and his 57-year-old wife Audrey weigh 24st. Their daughter Emma, 19, weighs 17st, while her older sister Samantha, 21, weighs 18st.

The family from Blackburn claim £22,508 a year in benefits, equivalent to the take-home pay from a £30,000 salary.

The Chawners, haven't worked in 11 years, claim their weight is a hereditary condition and the money they receive is insufficient to live on.

Mr Chawner said: "What we get barely covers the bills and puts food on the table. It's not our fault we can't work. We deserve more."

The excuses provided by the family aren't adequate. Does the UK have any system in place whereby people must prove their disabilities to receive government benefits? From that picture I can see that their weight is not so limiting that they cannot work. Hell, one of the IT guys here is fatter than that (I hope they don't monitor my access lol). This family seems ridiculously lazy and unwilling to take any action to get healthier. There should be stipulations tied to government benefits so these people have to make improvements to their health if they can.

They're fat, fucking huge. But to think they're too fat to work at all is just ridiculous. Too fat to work is where you're lying in bed all day with your mum/wife/husband constantly feeding you and you can't get up and you need a fucking crane to take you to the hospital.

I'd have to agree. Unless you are this fat, you have no excuse. And even then you can always sell your image and charge a 2$ entrance fee, or maybe let researchers examine the limits of the human body in an extreme case.
