Most music-tracks are recorded in stereo, 7.1 or 5.1 surround sound really is quite useless, all it will do is split and divide the track in ways that it was not produced/reocrded to be split, and then you'll get all sorts of EQ problems and losses to quality. Unless you want to constantly readjust your equalizer and surround-setup everytime you play a different genre/style of song, it's probably best to just cut out the surround and keep it to a 2.1 when listening to music. I know very few artists that record with 5.1 support, and the only guy I know that produces his music specifically for full-ambient 7.1 is Amon Tobin.
lol wat you know nothing. Ever heard of SACD or DVD Audio? 6, 8,.. mics recording sound from different angles creating multichannel output and not splitting stereo like you said LOLD big time
Hence why he said Most music-tracks...
?
He says most music tracks are stereo-right
but then he says multichannel audio is actually a divided stereo into multi which is incorrect

I dunno, using Winamp and some standard Sony mid-range headphones and my PC with no proper soundcard, I guess I sort of noticed abit better quality/sharpness than 320kbps .mp3, but that's about it. I'd rather just stick to 320kbps .mp3 files. Then again, I'm a person that's content with pretty much anything, it's not like I'm playing my music at club noise levels on massive speakers.

Sometimes I think being an "audiophile" is a curse, you never seem to be satisfied with anything and everything is "inferior" and "not good enough" - You see the same things with people and video cards, constantly striving for that extra frame per second, and completely missing out on any enjoyment whatsoever just because they're so obsessed about the little things. Not looking at the big picture, literally.

laugh all you want, but my setup fucking ownsssssss

if audiophiles didnt have their heads so far up their asses, maybe they could actually hear the music like normal people
I'm not questioning the awesomeness of the setup, I'm saying an Audiophile most likely won't be using them in a full setup.

I meant full 7.1 is what those movie nutters have. Figured Audiophiles probably have something similar as far as ridiculous speakers go.

He said that most music is recorded in 2.1, so if you try and play it through 5.1/7.1 speakers, they will just split it and it won't be "true" 5.1. He didn't say 7.1 audio is just split into stereo, as you can see later in his post where he says. "I know very few artists that record with 5.1 support, and the only guy I know that produces his music specifically for full-ambient 7.1 is Amon Tobin."

My pesronal opinion is even a 128kbps file will sound good if you have a very good setup. But there certainly is a difference between 128kbps or lets say your beloved FLAC.

ig is using a 5.1 set up, Uzique told him that most music is recorded in stereo (2.1) so, listening to it in 5.1 is useless because all it will do is split the track over the channels. And it's better to listen to it in stereo. Are you fucking dense or something?

I could say the same for Uzique when he came in the "Audiophile thread" and started flaming me. But you didn't read that one did you?

Most 5.1 set-ups do ig, you can usually change your output in your soundcards settings too. As Uzique said, listen to your music in 2.1 you should notice the difference then.

I'm sorry you seem to have confused me with a moderator. Do I look like I care in the slightest what Uzique did? I was reading in this thread and you tried to get all high and mighty, claiming he knows nothing and you, king audiophile of bf2s, tried to defame him. Which I pointed out that he does infact know what he's talking about and you were talking wet.

@ig, mok, etc: I have no problem listening to mp3s, and can definately enjoy music in that format (I do, everyday). However, when I listen to flac, I think "this is awesome", not "this is decent, the rest is shit"
