Since I'm not about to fumble around with a PSP on a construction site (risking its screen), I am looking into something sturdier, not to mention cheaper. Something that I'm not going to miss too badly if it gets dropped in a bucket of paint or run over by a truck. Here's rough objectives:

  • < ~$70 USD
  • easy to navigate and set up an organized library
  • long battery life
  • durable
  • reputable company support
  • loud enough speakers that it can actually be heard with clarity
  • good audio, even for a single earbud


Skimming through stuff on Newegg, will make final purchase on Amazon.

I just bought a SanDisk Sansa Fuze 2GB, 8GB MicroSDHC card, and a clear hard plastic case off Amazon for like $70. The player itself was $50. I really like it, and recommend it.

You can't make playlists on the player itself, but you can make as many playlists as you want in programs such as Winamp, though I haven't messed with that yet.

It doesn't have built in speakers though.
