My Windows folder is HUGE. On Vista x64, it's taking 24.4 GB of space. Shouldn't it only be around 8 or so max?

so that's not a strange size? i'm running out of room on this 160GB OS drive (figured it'd be large enough for an OS and games...guess not)max wrote:

Seriously? Zune I can understand, L4D no. I've got to reinstall L4D to verify.. if it stores anything in the system directory.. RAGE.SpIk3y wrote:
Well, some program files are stored in the Windows folder. For example, I see a Left 4 Dead and a Zune folder in my Windows folder. So I think that has something to do with it. Otherwise how can mine be 9.5GB and yours 24GB?
good idea, i haven't run it in a couple months at least...it's not even installed.Defiance wrote:
6.7 GB here. Try CCleaner.
holy shit! XS indeed. 14GB. is it wise to remove anything from it?max wrote:
check your winxs folder. It stores multiple copies of dll's in order to let multiple applications run in Windows without any compatibility problem.
fucking a. CCleaner only removed 1GB or so. question: if i use something like Norton Ghost to image my drive, can i restore the image to a non-identical drive? say, a larger one (with more cache perhaps)?max wrote:
Don't touch that folder, it can brick your system. The only real way of shrinking the folder is to uninstall programs you don't need anymore
awesome, thanks. they're dirt cheap, i might have to jump for one.max wrote:
Sure, no problem
