Situation:You have multiple battleshits in the area. Inside the perimeter, you have four skinnys on a rowboat with a hostage.

What do you do?
A- Order for marine sharpshooters to simultaneously kill all four pirates.
B- Give them their measly 2 million random. (Whats that compared to the piracy of the Fed? thats baby stuff.)
C- Sit around and do nothing while knowing that you have no experience in this sort of thing.
D- Hope.
What is wrong with patroling the waters and sinking any pirate ship that they come across. I am not sure how this should even be an issue.

I am not a sailor, so I really do not understand how pirates are able to board these massive ships so easily. It would seem to me all ya gotta do is NOT STOP.
They don't have to stop. The pirates have faster boats and grappling hooks. That's all they need to board them.

The real answer is that the US could do something about it -yesterday.  The bottom line is that there is a pansy in the WH that won't even stand up to 3rd nation 'pirates'.   And I type that because I'm giving him the benefit doubt..  The other option is that he hasn't done shit about it because the capt is just an American.  Relations with Somalia are so important you know...

I wonder how the Iranian gunboats and NK destroyers will behave towards us now....

I would imagine that along with ak-47s the pirates would also have RPGs which, if aimed correctly at the engine or on vulnerable areas, could seriously fuck up the ship
Tbh..Super-tanker > whatever boat they use to board the super-tank. Ramming ftw!
Rofl! Road kill!

Why not just change the damn rules and arm the ships with MK19s and M134s? Not hard TBH, alot cheaper.
Maybe some quad .50s for good measure too.

If it's a small life boat just have SEALs swim under it, tip it over, grab the captain, and kill the Somalis.

1. one of the french hostages died when french special forces stormed the boat with 4 (or 5) hostages (under them a 3 year old child) on board. maybe they just should have paid the money so that 27 year old woman would still be alive

2. i don't know if it is really possible to kill all 4 pirates in that lifeboat by snipers at the same time (i mean the awning of that lifeboat is not clear-transparent), but if it is, they should kill them. maybe us-special forces should swim to the lifeboat by night and free the captain. that could be an opportunity

FFS this is rediculous, every country with a ship going through there, get your fu**ing head out from your ass, arm the crew and fuck the pirates.

Have to say, I'm pretty surprised he made it out alive. Wasn't expecting him to, that's for sure.

Now we've got some dead Somalians and a healthy American coming home. Sweet!

Yeah, I really am intrigued as to how they managed to pull off such a successful hostage rescue. 3 dead and 1 captured. Now use him to get information on the whereabouts pirate land bases (everyone probably knows where they are already), and then let the tomahawks fly

serious question: do these somali pirates have no other chance to earn their living than hijacking vessels? is this the reason?

one might argue that companies illegally fishing the areas traditionaly fished by somalies drove the unemployed to piracy.

Here's a good brief Q&A article from the BBC that explains some of the stuff.

And here's another one talking abit more about why they do what they do.
