Where? A ranch in South Texas
One family owns a ranch in South Texas (not Corpus Christi). They used their oil royalty checks ($45k/month) to invest in several small businesses, or just to hang out with nothing to do. They also raise cattle. The ranch is doing quite well considering the lack of rain...their business ventures aren't all that great. They are the wealthiest family within 50 miles.
One the land are a few players.
1) Mother, widowed. Somewhat normal. Lives in a massive house, alone. There's a smaller house a quarter-mile away on the ranch housing the hands which work the cattle. Only two of the ten have questionable backgrounds due to addiction problems. The some of the ranchhands date the daughter
2) Mother's brother. Lives in their first ranch house before oil was found. A small three bedroom house. Keeps an inventory of the food stocks which fills two of the three bedrooms, which are mostly ramen noodles. Receives $700/week from sister, all used on food stocks and small building (aka bunker) improvements. A lot of the foodstuffs purchased are from replacing food the rats eat. Apparently rat droppings fall on you when you open the front door, as they are eating his ramen supplies. He believes Planet X will soon come close to earth and lay waste to all of civilization. Who knows why this guy hasn't installed a metal storage room for the food yet...
3) Daughter. Lives in second house on the ranch. A four bedroom house. Owns a women's boutique with items too expensive to sell to the locals in the town. Despite losing money hand over fist, she continues to purchase inventory. Receives $700/week (my guess, unconfirmed) from mother. 23 years old. Has been married three times and divorced three times. Total time married: 10 months (3.3 months average). Has at least two dozen animals living in house, including two sheep and three pigs. One of the pigs is over 400 lbs. Drinking problem now in rehab.
4) Nephew once removed. Remarried to a non-family member and has one child (who knows why he's still on "the take" from the mother). Mixes milk with 1/2 water because they can't afford giving their kid 100% milk/formula. Receive $500/wk for groceries from #1, and they have a three-pack a day smoke habit. Somehow paying for smokes is more important than proper nutrition. Lives in a double-wide with no septic tank. When you take a shit, it drops down below the trailer. The TV doesn't work because a cottonmouth crawled up through the toilet and curled up on the warm TV. Nephew used a double barrelled shotgun to dispatch the snake, the TV, and a 1 foot x 1 foot section of the trailer wall. Upset that the daughter receives a new car every two years as a birthday present, he drained the oil from his car and ran his 2004 Pontiac until the engine seized, then claimed "I don't know what happened".
5) Son. Lives in double-wide. Actually is a band, plays guitar in a country band. Supposed to be very bright and talented. Smokes a lot of weed and is married with no kids. Some of his band-mates told him that Obama was shutting Gitmo, and that those imprisoned hate Americans, especially those who are promoting American values - like country musicians. So he went on a bender, smoked a lot of weed and did amphetamines - stayed up three days until he collapsed and was hospitalized. He apparently had a shotgun next to him so that when the terrorists came for him at night he was ready. He's out of the hospital now.
Anyway, I can't share this elsewhere...but holy crap there's got to be a few reality TV shows in there somewhere....
