Yes, at least five, of which two that I bought.

EDIT:

No, it's gotta be way more. I have one 200GB, one 120GB and one 80GB in the trash RIGHT NOW.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

What's so bad that makes them fail?

How the fuck did you find out that Condoleeza Rice had her Maxtor drive fail twice

Anyway I have some un named random drive in my PC, this PC has been through so much shit. Overheating CPU, hard drive failure (constant clicking, freezing, odd electrical noises) - DVD drive setting on fire, viruses, AGP slot fucking up

Yet I've managed to go through it all and the only thing I've ever had to do was change the PSU, replace the DVD drive and clean out the heat sink and do some formats.

I always find it funny how so many enthusiast type people and how their PC's are constantly breaking down and having problems with certain parts etc.. I guess it's like automobiles. The cheap crappy cars that don't do much except the basics can work for decades whereas an F1 car constantly pushed to its limit needs constant maintenance otherwise it'll fall apart

Is Maxtor really that bad? I used one in my first computer build over 4 years ago and it's still running fine.

While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Some of their drives will just run and run and run, but most will die within a year.

I had a look on the RMA numbers of HDDs when I worked for a while in a PC Store and surprise surprise, Maxtor was winning by a mile.

I've got 3 dead Maxtor drives on my desk at the moment. I've seen several hundred fail.

I must've owned somewhere between 10 and 15 Maxtor drives that have failed - not that I've paid for any of them. All the ones I've paid for are WD or Samsung.

That said, I do have a 300GB Maxtor still going strong after 6 years of constant usage.
