If I were to connect  2 PCs to the same monitor (one via DVI and another via VGA) how would I then switch between them? Both PCs ON at the same time. I'm guessing software but what kind? Anyone running similar setup?

This.

My friend has his PS3 and PC on the same monitor and all he does is hit a button on the monitor to switch between them.

Whats that button called? The only that might do that is the "Auto" button but that might also set default calibration settings

iirc (it's downstairs and i don't use it often), this is all that's on the button: a rounded rectangle with a enter key arrow on it.

Open up the menu, and there should be an 'input' drop down, and you should be able to flick between them that way. That's how I do it between PC and Xbox.

I have my laptop and my PC plugged in to my monitor (sometimes). I change press the "change input" button on the front - as you would do on a TV remote, etc.

your monitor may not support this type of function.  You COULD use a KVM switch, like so many of us suggested.

It depends on the brand/model of your monitor. Some have a switch installed (electrical or mechanical) on them that toggles DVI/VGA mode. Some that do have it located in back where it's a pain in the ass to get to, and some don't entirely. For that, you'll need a another switch.

My screen electronically swaps through HDMI, Component, VGA and DVI.
