There was a police shooting at a traffic stop here in Austin, TX.  As the police began their standard shooting investigation, around 100 people at the nearby apartment complex begban pelting the police with trash and bottles, chanting "Murderer!"

Here are some of the articles that have been posted so far: Fox7 and KEYE (CBS).  What I find more interesting than the shooting is the reaction of the bystanders.  The Austin PD have always had a cloud of suspicion over them in the public eye, due to the strange congregation of a liberal local population in a conservative state, with a gathering of ultra-lib activists from the college (University of Texas) and political activists mixed with the the usual politics in a state capital.  Given this was in (what I would consider) an area with a high hispanic and 'African-American' population, the reaction was most likely predictable.  However, these people had their minds made up before the police even began an investigation, let alone made the results public.  How is this behavior in any way appropriate?  How can you take a groups objections and concerns seriously when they show reactions like this without having any details?

Now that I have said all of that, the police officer may have over-reacted, depending on the circumstances; but with a gun in the mix, the cop had to make a split second decision.  I think the officer acted appropriatly (pending further information).

Stupid liberal minorities should get out of America and go back to where they came from and leave the police alone

Real Americans stage tea parties and call for a secession from the union

I like how in that post you managed to offend pretty much everyone except for 50 year old, scotch drinking, good ol' conservative boys.

You think so?  I know the neighborhood; I have dispatched EMS to that neighborhood.  I have driven through that neighborhood.  It IS primarally black and hispanic.  It is in an 'economically depressed' part of town.  Crime in that area is up.  Most of the housing in that area is government subsidised.  I am pretty sure there is a strong level of correlation, there.

I know how the people in this city tend to respond to every single police shooting.  I see how the local newspaper slants every news report to sound as negative as possible toward the police.  Not just occasionally; every time.  I have seen how all of the sudden, the drunk kid who was driving then fighting with police was made to appear pure as fresh fallen snow while everyone around starts screaming 'race killing!'

My ire is directed at the people who were pelting the police with bottles and screaming 'murderer!' then turn around and complain that the police is doing nothing to deter crime in their neighborhoods.

Now, why is the 'black and hispanic' thing relavant?  Because the majority of the APD is white.  Whenever a non-white person is shot, the local hispanic and black activist leaders begin to yell that race played a part in the shooting.  Never mind the fact that the majority of crimes are commited by blacks and hispanics in this area.  That is not a comment about race; that is a fact driven by socio-economic situations here in this area, along with rising gang activity.

If you find that offensive, then so be it.

I am complaining more about mob mentalities in racially charged situations by areas in economically depressed populations of cities who give very little public support to the law enforcement community.

Awfully nice of you to try to spin my words and look for hidden meanings to perpetuate your uninformed, biased view of people and situations you don't even know.

When getting pulled over by the police, how do you remain sleeping?
