So are we dismissing this as another shitty fanservice unlock like the sandvich yet?

The Sandvich wasn't fanservice, it came about at the same time it became an item for the Heavy. The jars of pee gained somewhat of a following after being featured in the "Meet the Sniper" video.
There's an ad at the bottom of this page for a free diet analysis... I wonder how that got there...

"fanservice unlock"
These things should stay in the videos. I don't understand why they're so intent on taking every single little in-joke from the videos and ruining it like this. These things were funny in the videos. Especially the Sandvich. When MTScout came out everyone was like.
"The best part was the Heavy eating a sandwich". Because it was so surreal.
Now its just like. Meh. Overused.

Unlocks do not fit into tf2. They're silly gimmicks that last about a week. There have been about 2 decent unlocks ever. This stuff isn't exciting. etc.etc.Peter wrote:

I was hoping the unlocks would all add completely new levels of playing styles and add new skills to learn for the classes.Uzique wrote:

Unfortunately yeah. Most so far have been either gimmicks or a dumbed down version of the same weapon for less skilled players
Yeah it did. My point was that it didn't come out at the same time at all.Kptk92 wrote:

Honestly I consider the Meet the Scout video and Heavy unlocks as a part of the same "update", don't quite know why. It seems you're right though.

Remember when valve said they wouldn't take away player movement and then the sandman came out, and even though everyone has complained about it, it still takes away player movement? Just going to point that out again for how reliable their original vision of unlocks was.
Heh. That old quote. People always talk about it but they can never ever find the source, because it doesn't exist. I always used to talk about it as well. They never said that. I remember a thread on the Steam Forums where someone challenged the entire community. Find me the quote that says that and i'll be proven wrong he said. He wasn't proven wrong.Fat_Swinub wrote:

Robin replied to an email once and said that they see it mentioned but don't remember ever saying it. He goes on to say that they may have said it at some point, but design goals change over and and never say never etc.
So yeah. Either way I don't think we'll see more stunning weapons after the Sandman backlash.

End of the day Jarate is staying. People can bitch and moan and cry all they want (i.e Steam forums) but it won't be removed.
Except that they never said that.Fat_Swinub wrote:

I get the feeling that most people bitch about unlocks just because they like bitching about shit.

I certainly am. It's 4:30am and I'm looking for things to take me away from this essay I'm supposed to be writing.

Honestly I don't mind the Jarate. The only problem I have with it is the fact that I think a) TF2's sense of humour used to be better than that, and b) It doesn't fit the character. Aside from that, bring it on I say. I can't wait to actually be able to help teammates as the Sniper.
We could go back to complaining about how UP/OP the Razorback is instead I guess

The Razorback is useless. I mean, only really really bad snipers will use it. Seriously. If you need to rely on it, then you may as well go play a different class. And also what kind of spy won't just learn to revolver them anyway. It's so dumb.Spidery_Yoda wrote:

I'm pretty damn sure I read it on shacknews when one of their guys did an interview about how unlocks would affect the game, but it's been over a year since I remember reading that. Just trying to make a stab at bad TF2 unlocks here.
So what would be a better unlock to increase the sniper's teamwork then?
SMG that disables crits yet is better in some way, like literally every unlock should be IMO.
So every unlock should be the Blutsauger, which is probably the most OP unlock around?Fat_Swinub wrote:

Yep. The perfect unlock. Trade off random "I win" bullets for reliable upgrade? Yes please.
But then you end up in a game where newcomers have inferior weapons to the people who are already better at the game.
Which isn't good.
Which isn't good.
just started playing, i suck
