(Saturday, May 23) a woman in her 20’s was raped in a Washington park in front of hundreds of witnesses, and nobody stepped forward to try and stop it from happening.Rapist in Washington was in his 60s and the victim was a young female in her 20s.

Thinking about the rape story. The KHQ reporter said the initial call was a couple doing X-rated stuff..So, maybe it didn’t appear as a rape? I mean, I would imagine she would try to resist and call for help but.. maybe it was from a distance.

KHQ-TV says the initial call was that two people were having sex behind some bushes near a bridge.

When security responded, the male was uncooperative and combative and he fought with PD when they responded.

Only after talking to the witnesses and the female.. they did not believe it was consensual.
Would you interfere if you saw some people getting it on in the park? Some said it didnt look like rape it looked like rated R material? Also some people dont want to get involved fearing that something might happen to them? Would u intervene if u were there?

There is worse instances than this that have happened before.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitty_Genovese

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect

People are actually much less likely to help someone getting attacked / raped etc... if there are many people there, if you were on your own you are much more likely to help.

Its a truly sad story but the minds of humans are strange things, the collective minds of a mass of humans is stranger still.

Thats what i mean by the collective minds of humans work in a strange way, if we know there are many others then we believe that if we don't do anything then someone else will so it doesn't matter. Its called the diffusion of responsibility. The case of poor Kitty caused much research into this as people couldn't believe that could happen.

If some people were having sex in a bush, I'd probably just walk on awkwardly.
If someone was getting raped, I'd try and intervene.

Best of both worlds would be to tell them to stop as an excuse for getting a better look at the situation. It would be a little perverted but if it is rape, you ought to be able to tell; if it isn't, they shouldn't be having sex in a public park anyways.

Makes me think of my new movie State of Play.

Reliable print media vs. the age of the blogger.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

Jesus fucking christ. I hope they all never have a loved one in the same position as the man in the overturned SUV, being ignored by everyone.
