Any opinions on this ?

Chose the motherboard as it has 6 PCIE x 16 slots, which will be somewhat usefull when I go back to folding.... But a 4890 1GB will do for now.

I would like this rig to last me another 3 years!!!!

£2k is my budget but theres no point in spending more than I need.

I also have an IDE hdd and another sata2 that I need to connect up, if only temporarily.

Thanks!

Six PCI-E slots is pointless, even for folding, unless you go with some half-assed single-slot water coolers. Get a cheaper one by the same brand.

Graphics card is underpowered; get a 295 or 285, or whatever the higher-end nV cards are these days.

PSU is overkill. 620-750W Corsair is plenty.

HD is also small. If you've got the cash, get a bigger one. It's not like they aren't ass cheap these days.

Also check with ebuyer, they're usually cheaper than OCUK.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Thats about as good as it gets with one card and can handle few extra if needed in future.

The 1kW PSU can easily take 3 HD 4890s.

Personally I would go with 2 GTX 275s with Gigabyte GA-X58-UD5/Asus P6T.

I had a gtx 260 and it refused to work with my monitor!!!! also nvidias tend to cast black polygon artifacts on bf2 which is offputting....

Ehrnm? I have had 6 NVIDIA cards this year alone, anything from 8800GTX to GTX 295 and absolutely no problems with bf2....

edit: and you are buying new monitor

Go bigger on the HDD.
You're gonna need a DVD drive as well unless you have one lying around.
As previously said, the mobo is unnecessary.
If you decide to keep the HD4890, be on the lookout for a cheap second one that you can get because with a system like that eventually you will want it

I'd:
- drop to a P6T Deluxe V2. More than 4 GPUs per system only causes problems with fah. Also no dual slot coolers are possible.
- get a GTX275. They tend to ruin cooler, quieter and use less power
- get cheaper ram.
- Pick up a DVD burner if you don't already have one
- faster HDD

Get a WD caviar black instead of the blue.

You don't want a slow drive like that in a fast system.

Professional gaming monitor? Lol... Arent there a few people with the cheap yet nerdgasm worthy Acer 24" monitor? Cant remember the model (halp)

For GPU, if you want this to last 3 years I would go for a GTX295. The money youll save getting a non pr0 gam3r monitor you can put towards the GPU. And the 295 kicks the shit out of a 4890
