Thanks for all the well wishes, guys.

It's weird.  If you asked me a year ago, I never would've thought about enlisting.

I'll admit, I'm nervous...but I'm also definitely looking forward to it.

I think the military is a smart move and a good escape when normal life fails. I've known a good number of folks that could never complete college, excel in the private sector, or had traumatic romantic relationships . After their time in the military they were able to get jobs where people with previous military experience is preferred reguardless of how well they excelled at anything. As for the branch choice taking one of the easier ones like AF or Navy is good; better education and less hazing. Surprisingly the coast guard is the second most difficult.

The millitary is way more than being a grunt, not everyone can be a marine and not every wants to be one ... and the millitary needs more than marines ...

Your not going to think so while in boot camp, but you will have a great time. Boot camp is nothing like what you will experience once you are assigned. It will then become whatever you want it to be, building great friendships along the way. It is time you will look back upon years from now as a positive experience and you will be glad you did it. I promise

In my opinion but of course it depends on what you do.

Good.  I want it to be a challenge.  I want it to be like nothing I've done before.  I want it to shape me into a stronger, better, more mature person.  I want it to teach me respect and discipline.

Honestly, I'd be very disappointed if I walked away from boot camp saying "well, that was easy."

I REALLY have to start thinking about what job I want.  I mean, granted, that's still a little while away, but I need to at least start researching them and everything.

And yeah, the reason why I'm joining the Navy is because I've heard the Air Force and Army is kind of the easy way out...but the Marines seems a bit TOO hardcore for me.

My comp school is for when I quit the Marines (like 8 years maybe)

My impossible-to-achieve dream is working for some game company as a dev (like CM, IW, DICE, etc...)

That "Hardcore" thing is what I'm looking for. Not to mention you learn a shitload of practical stuff for later in life. Depending on your experience there you can also get that, "honor, courage and commitment" tbh...

Good choice with Navy.  8 year Missile Technician here.  If you are thinking subs at all let me know.  That's my area of expertise.  Especially the Ohio class.

Good luck.

So that's two Bf2s.com moderators enlisting at the same tim - 'cept I'm just going for the NZ Terrors. Don't blame me, it's not like the NZ military does anything anyway.

A good ad campaign that, it should have won.

I went to an airshow earlier this year. The Aus airforce sent over two Hornets. I was just looking at them both and thinking "Y'know: I'm looking at a force that could take over our entire country with no trouble whatsoever." Depressing thought. Good thing that we're buds.

I'm considering it, actually.

Talked to a couple friends of mine who were subs...both of them were just like "it's not for everyone.  It's a good amount of work...and it's a lot harder than anything else.  But if you're up for the challenge, then do it."

Im joining the USAF too, talked to a bunch of people already, went to the recruiter. I am going to be doing security forces (hopefully, fingers crossed) and use those skills to become a Massachusetts State Police Officer. As for signing bonus's that you mentioned earlier on, it all depends on the career you take. for the USAF they need people who want to be trained in avionics, loadmasters and other electronic jobs, those get like 15k or 20k sign on bonus's.

And just who have you heard that from? Probably people in the Navy or Marines.

Whether boot camp is difficult or not is, ultimately, irrelevant. It's what you get out of the active duty experience that is critical. And even more importantly, what you want to do with that active duty experience.

There are so many factors involved...choosing a branch simply because of how easy or hard you've heard its boot camp is is really short-sighted, tbh.
