You have to be far away from any engagement for your health to regenerate, not to mention it takes a little while in this state to be able to begin repairing/healing,

It's not a system where you can get shot, duck behind cover and wait for your health to regenerate. You have to leave the combat zone, wait there a while, then wait for your health to regenerate, then go all the way back to the fight.

I'm not defending it as much as I'm trying to point out that it won't have a big impact on the game.

limited regen health is fine, limited as in you can only fully regenerate up to say the quarter of health you're in. drop down to 30 health, regen up to 50, almost die with 2 health, regen up to 25, etc.

Playing infantry on BF2's large-scale vehicle maps was so hard because there was literally no way to get your health back. Walk over a bump too fast and you're permanently hurt. fun.

It's more like,

- get hit by rocket
- run away for a minute or so, completely away from the action
- wait 20 seconds
- full health

So it is lame, but people aren't going to run far away from the action just for free health, it's much more practical to use a med kit in the field.

I would run from danger to regain armor health, instead of jumping out of my armor and repairing it myself and risk getting killed.

How exactly did the Vehicle health regen work in the alpha?

I know for the infantry health, it took 20 seconds to kick in and the counter was reset every time you were either hit or suppressed.

But I didn't see any videos showcasing the regen on the IFV.

Imagine aircraft regen.

And did anyone notice if the IFV had limited ammo?  Back on BF2, I regularly ran out of TOW missiles.

It felt pretty damn fast. In its favor, you're under so much AT fire in that thing it rarely made a difference and disabling of vehicles prevents it from getting away.  BUT it completely negates the engineer IMO anyways.

Keep your distance in the water, dodge distant incoming rpg's.  I'd get hit on occassion and go to like 80% or some such.  Continue dodging for less than 30 seconds and I'm 100% again.  I was practically invulnerable.

regenerating vehicle health makes no sense in any game universe... especially one that has an ENGINEER class that basically SPECIALISES in being able to, oh i don't know, REPAIR SHIT. this sounds like top-level fucking cluelessness to me.

yea, but if you're doing that then your team is losing.  The only way to get the first two* MCOMs on that map was to load the APC with at least four dudes.  Haul balls to A. Driver\main gunner gets out to plant.  MG gunner covers, driver returns to IFV. Then they proceed to rape faces and provide support for the trickling in attackers at A.  A is destroyed, repeat for B.

I never one a game as attackers unless that happened.  I only saw the back part of the map maybe ten times during the alpha?

Yeah it is fucking retarded tbh, they need to remove it. One good improvement to the vehicle damage is the ability to disable them, which you receive points for (used to be always so annoying when you batter shit out of a tank and receive no reward for doing so).

Yeah, did that too.  But driver and main gunner stayed.  Fully loaded IFV (God, I miss that from the early BF2 days).  But then defense got smart and started planting C4 all over the place.  Wait for IFV to roll over, and boom, 6 kills.

Stay on the lake, covering as team mates go for the MCOM's.  Easy kills when the enemy tries to disarm.

So who else compiled some screenshots and video?  Since the Alpha's over, we ought to be able to post them eh?

You'd think they'd enable battlelog forums so we could at least discuss the technical issues we had on the Alpha.

Yeah, that's a good system how it can work.

Far Cry 2 did that very well, only it used five 20% steps.
If you were below one, you could only regenerate your health up to that, but not more.

If your health was in the <20% increment, you needed to perform a long-winded healing animation (putting bandage on, pulling out shrapnel with a pocket knife, removing glass shards or metal parts, etc.); same applied when you were on fire, where you had to extinguish yourself to stop health from going down.
The regular healing with syringes was faster.

Indeed.
What would be next?
Regenerating ammo in guns?

I hope vehicle ammo is limited, including all mounted weapons or smaller caliber weapons mounted on vehicles.

Also hope the way you sit in HMMWVs is fixed. I hated that ridiculous 2 up front, 2 in the trunk, 1 on the gun set-up. I hope it's 4 people in the front and rear 2 passenger seats and one on the gun. maybe we could also fire out of the windows with our weapons too, that would be cool.

I'd go the other way. Less then 50% health take 2% dmg every 30 seconds. Less then 20% health take 5% dmg every 30 seconds. And health packs can not instant heal, you would have to pick one up then spend 1 second to heal every 20% hp yourself (or a medic can do it for you if they are close).

It will, just think snipers. Snipers will hide far aways from the battlefield, you will shoot them and probably deal 90% damage, unless you make a headshot. The snipers will go into cover, regen and pop back up. It is a stupid idea, there is a medic class so stick with it.
