The plaintiffs-lawyer lobby blows $9 million and gets nowhere.

Texas recently finished its legislative session, and the best news is what didn't pass. Namely, some 900 bills put forward by the tort bar.

    This is interesting...
"Speaking of the economy, it's notable that Texas created more new jobs last year than the other 49 states combined. Texas's low tax burden is one reason. But also important is a fairer legal environment in which companies are less likely than they were a generation ago to face jackpot justice."

I see all those jackpot justice mesothelioma commercials on tv and spam emails...

How Texas Cured Their Doctor Shortage and Became a Model for Healthcare Reform

"From the Editor
America is facing a medical liability crisis which already has resulted in decreased patient access to healthcare and rising health costs. The Pacific Research Institute (a not for profit, nonpartisan organization), was the first to do a detailed study quantifying the total cost of tort litigation in our country. They have calculated that the excessive tort costs in the United State due to lawsuit abuse totals $589 billion each year.(1)"

589 billion!!!

Tort reform is definitely an area we need to explore as we move closer to socialized medicine.

Just another reason I am glad I live in Texas!  My wife is a nurse and I am in nursing school.  I hate having to spend my spare time looking for malpractice insurance.  We gotta have it, but I am very glad these things did not pass.

I'm seriously thinking of moving to Texas.  California is so getting under my skin.  You know how hard it is to be Conservative here?

No doubt much of it encouraged by a .45 Long Colt.  At least it was when I lived there many years ago.

Yes, sorta.  Graduated El Cajon HS in 1962, join the military and never returned.  It was weird then and never improved.

Should probably move there before they split from the Union...but I'm not sure that I would be a citizen of the Republic of Texas...only naturally born Texans will right?

You know, we also have jobs here.   Actually, if you want to move to Texas, just follow these simple rules when you get here:
-Ditch that Cali license plate, fast.  Cali drivers are really starting to piss us off.  Turn signals exist for a reason.
-Just because your tiny house there sold for more than a mansion would here, there is no need to drive up OUR property values; taxes hurt.
-Play nice, and learn to say "ya'll."  As long as you like us for who we are and don't try to make this "New California," you are welcome here.

Yeah dude...I was going to buy a F250 or something before I got there.  I hate 'yards' so only a condo for me.  AND I already say, "Y'all' I grew up in the south.
