The dashing Prince and his girlfriend, party favor heiress Kate Middleton, toured a privately-sited $8 million 4-bed, 4.5-bath compound with a detached guest house, 4-car garage and beautiful ocean view.

What's this guy done to earn 8 million in disposable income?

Seems rather uncool when the economy is jacked and he personally has done nothing to earn this money.

Go home royal. I for one do not want you here while your nations economy is in shambles and it seems pretty elitist you sharmy bastard.

Good I hope they buy the house. It's not like they are going to live there more then a month a year and it'll pump some cash into the country that would otherwise be sitting in the queen's treasury.

It was sold to someone else.

What makes you suggest he was going to buy it? Do you honestly believe that only people interested in buying a 8 million dollar house go to view it?

Also, don't you think his mother left him some money? Would she of been welcome in your great country ATG?

Apparently the Royal Family costs every individual something like 60-odd pence per year.  Sometimes I find myself thinking, that's not the point though.

Correction. Your royal buildings monuments and pageantry, which was paid for and maintained by citizens taxes earns the country millions. Do tourists get to meet the Queen?
I was recently in Berlin and toured all the beautiful public buildings which where full of tourists. You don't need a monarchy to attract tourists. The architecture is there. This presumption that the royals generate more money in tourism than they take is bollox.

I dunno, things like changing of the guard wouldn't happen without them. Plus, remember the crowds & international coverage of liz's coronation, dianas marriage and death? Everytime they make a public appearance they draw huuuuge crowds.

I think it's the idea of the monarchy that makes the money, not just the buildings an not just the people in question.

The universe would implode if Price William and Price Harry were inside the Big Brother house (god that show was shit). The tabloid magazines would only be able to cover one story and not two!

Imo each country in the Commonwealth should be sending back two or three million a year as well. After all, we do have the Queen plastered all over our coins.

On that note, there's a new push for a republic here emerging. lel

I know that if you want an agent to show you a 8 million dollar house you need a pre-qual letter. Unless you have endless access to tax payer money, then I guess there are no normal limits.

That's what I'm saying. I don't care who his mum is fact is all he did to 'earn' that money was to get shat out of his mummy. ( sorry if that's offensive, I was actually a fan of Dianna, may she rest in eternal rest on a 800 thread count lined coffin ). It would be one thing if he was the scion of a captain of industry but the fact is that without the tax funding of his lifestyle he'd be slinging a wrench in a grease pit or pushing papers hoping he didn't get sick like the rest of U.K's sorry bastards.

If you want to see the best example of "bleating sheep" citizens, look in your own back-yard. Obama Obama Obama.

Hell, at least our royals don't pretend to actually do shit - they just chill, wave and smile, and get on with their little unimportant lives.

I don't really have an objection to the Queen and her family, some of them do use their fortunate position to actually do a lot of good. They're not exactly massive drains on tax money and public-funds when you consider the balance sheet of all of it; they earn and bring in just as much money through various avenues (e.g. tourism, state occasions, various initiatives) as they take out to maintain their decadent lifestyle. As someone said above, it's 6 pence a year and that's not exactly a massive price to retain one of the essential characteristics that form British identity and our cultural/historical pride. Politically you can argue against the idea of monarchy all you want... it's pretty irrelevant. The Queen and her relatives are nothing but a tourist-attraction and press-gimmick nowadays, there's nothing to really oppose in principle about them.

The architect Lord Rogers has said he believes Prince Charles has broken the "constitutional understanding" governing the role of the monarchy.
Last week, Lord Rogers' plan to transform Chelsea Barracks in west London was dropped after the prince told developers it was "unsympathetic".
The architect told the BBC there could be "a dangerous political clash" unless the power of the royals is re-examined.
The developer had planned to spend £1bn building a complex of 552 flats in 17 blocks.
It had favoured Lord Rogers' modernist glass and steel design, but in March, the Prince of Wales told Qatar's royal family it was "unsuitable".

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8102617.stm

This is a good example of the royals meddling. Rodgers is one the top Architects in the world. He has pushed limits of Architecture across the world, exporting a new minimalist style. Prince Charles is an Architectural traditionalist with no education in the arts or architecture. Yet he constantly interferes in major planning matters by voicing his opinion publicly. I do agree with some of what he says, but why give Richard Rodgers a Lordship?
He is entitled to his opinion, but he has actually stepped things up by actually contacting the developer and using his influence. Architecture is free flowing, it must be allowed to develop naturally with the times. Charlie is stuck in the past and wants to keep us all there.

The guy can air his own views if he wants but it should stop there. At the end of the day the developers weren't forced to scrap the plans it's just that they did for the sake of it.

Personally I don't see what's so great about "traditional" architecture, whatever that is. Most "traditional" buildings in the UK resemble Ancient Greek architecture anyway

I don't really have any problems with the Royal family, although I'm not sure how things will be once the Queen goes away cos the heirs look like complete douchebags to me compared to Queen
