I don't live near the station but yeah I live in DC. That's a pretty shitty place for it to crash, a lot of riders are going home up toward Silver Spring (that's north of the Takoma station) and beyond at this hour. Apparently there's already one confirmed fatality. RIP.

Thanks to whoever karma'd with "at least your alive", though I don't go through that area much so there wasn't much of a chance that I would've been in the accident. I was on the Metro earlier, but on the other end of the Red Line.

What I'm wondering is how the train derailed. Hopefully it was a freak occurrence and not something that could happen to any train due to a design flaw.

I don't think it was a derailment. It seems like the trains crashed head on. Probably a fuck up on the dispatchers end.

It derailed and I'm assuming it hit a train that was oncoming in the other direction

edit: WTF, I could've sworn it had something about a derailment
