I totally forgot to do anything special in my classes for Jimmy Carter dying. My assistant who is 60 asked me why I didn't do anything today. He was so old and so distant that it didn't even register to me that I should do something.

I thought about maybe putting on the funeral. So I watched about 5 seconds of it on Youtube and I was bored. I can't dump that shit on the students. No one needs that negativity 9:30 in the morning.

Why do funerals need to be so boring?

I don't want a trad Catholic funeral.

I want the most cosmopolitan celebration of life possible.

I would like a nice Mausoleum though.

Found out an old boss died. He always said he'd be dead before 50 and he wasn't wrong.

Crazy, just saw that.

He used to do the weather on a local indie station here. Always a little joy to look forward to on the daily commute

The Luigi trial going to be like

luigi's situation stinks. how is he expected to get a fair trial when people in power have gone out of their way to smear him (even while ostensibly preferring adjectives like "suspected" in some cases)? various law enforcement have made a point of parading him about like they personally caught the joker? while news sites wring their hands about the potential for sympathetic jurors because of his cult following in social media, i have to wonder where the concern is in those articles about stuff like elected officials already baying for his blood.

people have saint luigi candles. what's going to happen if he "hangs" himself in prison?

hackman's wiki bio is a wild read. had to wince though at the "proud democrat who spoke fondly of reagan" stuff. reagan swayed too many.

weird stuff, those deaths. keeps unfolding into crazy revelations and speculation.

If Gene Hackman had had a cat maybe his wife wouldn't have died.

cats eat their dead owners. and they don't wait long. that lady's week-old corpse would have been in the litter tray.

she (apparently) died of an extremely rare virus that's transmitted chiefly by rodents and their droppings. the sort of thing anyone could get, albeit extremely rarely, around the home. not really a cat vs. dog scenario.

is there a dog equivalent of toxoplasmosis? at least canines don't need to infect their owners with a parasite that brainwashes the host into loving them.

I think any cat parent knows this is their future

Whenever I lay on the floor and played dead the last cat would start gnawing my arm.
I have a video somewhere.

you'd think Death would be used to that sort of thing by now.

also, "pet parent" has to be one of the most obnoxious neologisms of the modern world. "this is my son," that, sir, is a dog. it may sound arbitrary, but i think people put an unhealthy amount of stock in their relationships with their pets. does it help justify all the costs of preventative vet care?

whatever the case, i'm going to expect a confused, unhealthily spoiled animal with bizarre habits when i hear that. "and this is fluffy's chair at the dining room table," what.

side note: cats have skull-cracking force in their bites. that animal can open up a rat head (which should be deterrent enough for letting cat teeth touch skin) like a walnut. imo, if you're bitten by a cat and your skin isn't damaged, it's not a real bite. who does that tiktok stuff anyway, playing injured or dead to see how a pet reacts. there's probably comics for that too.

I thought that only applied to mice.

First cat: Didn't even nibble me once, did see him bite through a rabbit's head in one chomp.

Second cat: Biting was his way of playing. I had to re-educate his bite force - most cats learn to regulate their play bites as kittens through interaction with other kittens and adult cats. If they are separated too early this doesn't happen. Re-regulation involves grabbing their scruff and pinning them to the floor for a few seconds.

Third cat: Gives the occasional playful nibble.

Experience of third cat has been a bit if a change. First two took time to get settled. This one was completely confident and at home within about five minutes and interacting with us as if she'd known us for years.

dog and cat saliva are both equally bad for
you. if you get bitten by any animal you need a round of shots. somehow i doubt the inside of your cat’s mouth is a germ-free zone. they are both disgusting.

toxoplasmosis is spread from cats to humans. dogs don’t host it. it swiss cheeses your brain more effectively than a lifetime of cocaine so enjoy your remaining years of cognisance with that emotional support fur ball.

dissssgusting!

we could be defeating toxoplasmosis but donald trump has banned research on everything.

did anyone have george foreman for 2025? some lost sports history there.

but: i have some perhaps uncharitable opinions, because foreman had uncharitable opinions, and because i'm going to be hearing about this from mopey boomers soon enough anyway. i may as well get it out of my system here, anonymously.

political comments about the "sore losers," in 2017? did not age well on jan 6. "kaepernick etc is not patriotic; did not have patriotic upbringings," -paraphrase. all this, coming from the guy who lamented political commentary from athletes? shut up.

some rich guy with zero military service chiding people for using freedoms afforded to them because of "sacrifices made so people can have those freedoms." again (because conservatives make that argument so wearyingly often), how is it a disrespect to dead american soldiers for an american to exercise the very freedoms that conservatives argue dead american soldiers died for americans to have? this makes zero sense. if i were a dead soldier who blew up on d-day or whatever, i would instead be insulted if americans slept through our freedoms.

i feel bad for his family but i can't lament the lost potential for foreman appearances on podcasts. or the day-after wanks from conservative acquaintances when they start lavishing the guy with praise out of nowhere and leave me fishing for context on why the heck it came up. me, later: "oh, it's because he said something vaguely republican."

you’re picking over the public statements of a man who got hit in the head for a living.

like connor mcgregor now, we shouldn’t be putting the chronically traumatically brain injured on political podiums.

76 is a very good age. i’ve probably seen double digits numbers of ex professional boxers in my brother’s neuro unit whose brains have become swiss cheese by 50.

that's a good observation, but i've already had foreman's opinions sagaciously paraded in front of me by two-dots argumentation: "a celebrity shares my viewpoint!" i predict some more of this irt foreman in the near future, sort of like this:

a conservative in a circle once again disingenuously slides this stuff into a conversation starter all coy-like. but even if i'm not directly aware of what's going on at first, i can read the beginnings of a trap. it's like being roadrunner watching wile e coyote painting a tunnel on the side of a cliff. they start with some unrelated thing, name drop, then tie the name to the thing they want to convince you of. yawn. at least the most it takes is going *MEEP MEEP* and their argument jumps into the air and impales a rocky overhang with its head.

it boggles my mind that a someone will sit and absorb everything, for ex, foreman says as gospel, even if it isn't boxing or grilling, yet will dismiss expert opinion on stuff like vaccines. why. is this something rehearsed in shower arguments? how did it win?

old or not, i do feel bad for his exceedingly large family. it's still a sad thing. although, i don't know how close they were.

well, i guess in a way he was one of the first ever 'celebrity' anythings, crossing over from the sports world, anyway. that idea of a 'sports personality' didn't really exist before his generation. so he had an outsized influence by merit of that, i guess. it was canny of him to get out of the 'career CTE' thing and into selling griddles or whatever.

like any top athlete, he lived an exemplary life in many ways. being at the very top of your game is an olympian achievement. took levels of grit and discipline that 99.9% of us can't even fathom. etc. but i'm still going to stick with my guns here and say that ex-boxers don't make the best political analysts. or analysts of anything, really. they have quite literally been struck dumb, professionally.

it's a pretty legendary character arc. 'roman gladiator leaves the arena and identifies opportunity selling appliances to the white goods empire at its peak'.

i think if you're going to be a political hot takes sports guy, it helps if you aren't also a hypocrite about it.

it's also weird seeing someone incline their head respectfully at the christian piety of a hundred-millionaire.

again, i don't want to take away from his achievements or diminish the family's loss. i'm just battening the hatches for a week's deluge of all things foreman.
