As I already pointed out its not about free stuff but the fact the site is well known by users and by those who have never been on the site but did heard about it-those are the new potential customers. Also your statement is not based on anything as I don't recall a site to be in the same situation and the users stopped using it because it no longer offered free service (there might be still something free there btw). So to summon- its not necessarily for current users to continue using the site's services but to lour new members that are familiarized with the site and want to try it out.CrazeD wrote:
Think about it. Why do people go to TPB in the first place? To get shit for free. If they wanted to pay for it they wouldn't be on TPB..Sup wrote:
Is this based on a fact? I see where are not going to be on the same page but to answer to your original question again as to why thye bought it- Because its a well known site and not much or none of advertising will be needed. You can be sure they know that and thats one of the main reasons they bought it.ghettoperson wrote:
The only people that it might attract would be people who don't torrent but hear about TPB in the news. Pirates aren't going to change their habits just because they like a website.
Edit: they already saved twice as much on advertising
Which essentially leads to a fuckload less traffic, making it worth nothing..Sup wrote:

Again you are basing this on what? Do you know exactly how many people will left the site and how many will stay and how many new users will join the site?CrazeD wrote:

What do you use? TPB disappoints a lot of the time as for what it has on and the only other sites I find are even worse.Miggle wrote:

I think Panzer once said you get better hits if you make an account there and are logged in before searching for torrents.Toilet Sex wrote:

Kind of what happened to Napster which became a pay service after it's legal battles. People just went elsewhere for their free shit. Same thing will happen here, eventually another Pirate Bay will emerge.

I always found that the worst feature of TPB was the search. TPB almost always had what i was looking for but the search function never returned the results.
Thus i moved on.

Miggle, are you an Internet hipster that has timewarped here from 2006?
This thread is about The Pirate Bay, a public torrent site. Shut the fuck up.

Actually its not too bad, but you gotta know what you look for and shit...the big problem is that you can sort all lets say...Movie by seeder and have a look at the most seeded, wich are usually the best shit on there.Miggle wrote:

I remember the frenzy of getting the last free music you could off Napster before they finally shut down. But you're right, either another torrent site will take the crown as king, or a new one will emerge and attempt to appeal to TPB regulars...Ty wrote:

I am done with Pirate Bay now. Fuck the new owners. I agree that once they make people pay they will move on.
I am a cheap bastard and proud of it! The less I spend on movies and porn the more I have for beer and cigars.

My father occasionally uses the Pirate Bay.
I told him about this earlier.
He said he wouldn't be returning and asked me to find him another public torrent tracker to grab the odd BBC series from.

Ha!
They got ripped off. $8 million? It'll flop.
I have to say I've lost a bit of respect for the guys running the site, but in their position I'd probably do the exact same thing. If I ever got the opportunity to sell out for millions, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

I loved their approach to the big ass fucking super powers like Microsoft, always used their sites for torrents.
Clean site, huge user base, shame to see it go. =/

Umm... I think their decision might have something to do with the fine they have to pay.Bertster7 wrote:

they aren't buying the site, they are buying the established trafficghettoperson wrote:
Why would they pay so much for it when they could start up their own site?

that maybe true, but at least this will somewhat slow down the pace of illegal, unethical, and homosexual file sharing.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:
